New map - Duck, Duck, Goose - 12-17-2010

Hi, I've been wanting to play Minecraft but we still have the same goddamn map so there's still no challenge or fun. It's about damn time we have a poll.

Not to mention we were promised a new map at beta, and hey look, beta is in three days. Plenty of time for democracy.

Re: New map - demonspork - 12-17-2010

instead of just voting, can at least some people post their thoughts on the matter?

Re: New map - DragonEkarus - 12-17-2010

So far, from what I've seen personally I see two valid reasons and a complaint as to why to restart the map.

- The Crash Region. Which, Demon claims to be able to fix with some downtime.
- When duping is fixed fixed it's the only sure fire way to get rid of ALL duped materials.

The one complaint I can see:
Person X got all the Material Y I wanted and now I have to go Z Distance from spawn to get Material Y.

Re: New map - Didzo - 12-17-2010

I voted yes but will offer no input as to why I voted yes.

Re: New map - ZargonX - 12-17-2010

I am very proud of my little valley now, but it would be exciting to have everyone starting on the same footing and see what we can make in a world where survival actually matters from the get-go.

Why I voted yes.

Re: New map - Turtle - 12-17-2010

When he fixes duping I'm 100% certain the game is going to drastically change and that 50% of us will not adapt very well to this

in other words some shit is going to go down on the new map

I vote when shit goes down we eat Turtle to survive o.=.o

Re: New map - Luinbariel - 12-18-2010

Can I have his shell?

I'm game for a new map I suppose. I shall miss my place but I think I can handle it.

Re: New map - Whendilin - 12-18-2010

Mostly I enjoy my fortress in the sky, but alas, I think it is time for a new map. I vote yes because Zargon is right.

Re: New map - DragonEkarus - 12-18-2010

If we do start a new map, I strongly recommended we wait until duping is fixed, fixed (Just to avoid any and all chances of 'Well now duping is fixed, we should restart the map again')

I do however, request permission to set up a bunker of sorts over spawn with administrator materials when (and if) we get a new map, as to prevent absolute creeper rape to the spawn like last-time o.=.o If we don't.... I'd like to build said bunker in current map o.=.o

Re: New map - nickasummers - 12-18-2010

I like the idea of a new map. Building is more fun than admiring your creation, so as a map ages, you end up with dozens of totally uninhabited buildings that people must walk progressively longer to get out of sight of to find new land. Moreover, there is no simple way to be totally sure tjere are no duped mayerials left and, in fact, it is possible to harvest materials that were duped and used and not get caught. Third, its an easy and garanteed fix for the crash zone. And finally, it will be our first map that had mobs from the very start. It will be more interesting.

I can see why people would want to keep it though: they dont want to lose the stuff they built, they dont want to lose the material they have collected, (they dont want to lose the duped materials that nobody has found ye

One more note: notch has added pools of water and lava to the world generator, and will probably continue improving it. I have not seen strong evidence that changes to the generator are applied to existing maps. If he does keep adding and it requires a new map each time to notice, we will need to get used to restarting the map occasionally.

Re: New map - demonspork - 12-18-2010

The generator changes for newly generated chunks, Ekarus is set up on a part of the map generated after pools of water were added, he is next to a lake.

I plan to use Cuboid plugin to disable creeper damage in the spawn area like I have in the current amusement park.

duping should be fixed in beta, the major change to the code is that he is implementing server side inventory.

I am going to leave the current map online until all of the mods are updated and have had time for bugfixes, then we shall bring a new map online (probably at least 48 hours) and go from there.

Re: New map - demonspork - 12-18-2010

That's actually a good idea, how about an SMP nether server (we can set the world to be Nether only in the config) with item kits so you can have tools and armors in a hell only world that we run for 3 days during the transition to a new normal map?

Not the point I think he was trying to make but if your suggesting we do a hell map till zee beta comes out it would give me a reason to play again before then... Though the spawn WILL need to have some form of over-head bunker (Yay Ghasts)

Re: New map - Luinbariel - 12-18-2010

THIS WILL BE AMAZING

Re: New map - DragonEkarus - 12-18-2010

A thought - Make people work together.
Kits:
Nether Warrior (Demon Slayer?): Diamond Sword, Diamond Armor, 12 "Bacon"
Nether Archer (Demon's Bane?): Bow, 4 Stacks of Arrows, Leather Armor, 12 "Bacon"
Nether Architect (Hellish Brick-Layer?): Diamond Pick, Diamond Shovel, Diamond Axe 4 Stacks of Smooth-Stone, 4 Stacks of Obsidian, 4 Stacks of Logs, 4 Stacks of Glass, 4 Stacks of Brick (And other assorted building materials if need be.) (Give command for building materials maybe?)
Nether Gardener (Hard-core mo-fo?): Diamond Shovel, 1 Stack of Saplings, 1 Stack of Red Flowers, 1 Stack of Yellow Flowers, 1 Stack of Seeds, 1 Stack of Reeds

...I don't know I'm trying -.=.-

Re: New map - Nickelplate - 12-18-2010

I spent a few WEEKS collecting over 100 pumpkins for a project. If we redo the map, I will have 0 pumpkins and this is unacceptable.
