Galactic Civ 2 does a pretty good job of doing that to me. I just keep telling myself "5 more turns" and next thing I know its 2am and I got to be up at 6 for work.

did like galciv2 as well, i always prefer to be a researcher. specifically researching economy bonuses, which causes my monies to increase , which causes faster research. >
and i have tier 16 death lasers when you are just figuring out tractor beams

I play the exact way but focus on trade/economy so I can buy techs from other races and build up my civics faster. Unfortunately this possibly leads to asshole evil races going out of their way to destroy me early on.

Absolutely. We'll have to see if this is Hamachi friendly, if so, its a great way to kill a couple hours.
