Demi-God - Tragic Hero - 04-02-2008

It was in February's issue of GFW where I read about Demi-God first.  Developer Gas-Powered Games calls it a mix between a RTS and Diablo while other gamers are calling it a DOTA clone.  Either way the game sounds fun. You pick a hero and depending what type it is (general or assasin) will determine your gameplay.  Pick a General and you run the game like a RTS, commanding groups of your "creeps" to attack specific building and so forth while building structures to fortify your base.  Pick the Assasin type and the game becomes more like a action/RPG hack-n-slash where you go around killing enemy creeps thus making easier for yours to push to enemy base.

Besides the possibly addictive gameplay it could boast, the game also looks rather impressive graphically.

Slated for fall of 08 I think this will be a surprise PC hit as long as the game can fulfill what it claims.  Your thoughts?

I dig those titans.  Also, I'm intrigued / worried about the toggling between action gameplay and RTS gameplay.  If a game tries to do both, can it succeed at both?  I live under a rock; I don't know.

Re: Demi-God - Ice Max - 04-02-2008

If they pull it off, it could be a very epic game

From the sound of it I don't think you are toggling between each mode.  For example there is a hero called the The Torchbearer who controls (you guessed it) fire.  He is an assassin hero since he can go around attacking enemies with his flame attacks and then putting skill points in said powers.  So if you pick Torchbearer you can't control your creeps or build up your base.  You are stuck in action/RPG mode with that hero.

Re: Demi-God - CaffeinePowered - 04-03-2008

It was only a matter of time until someone copied DOTA and made a stand alone game

Re: Demi-God - Kor - 04-03-2008

First thing I notice is that the "creeps" are poly-by-fucking-poly copies of WoW Tauren.

Wasn't the one titan, the one that looks like a few barrels just rolled into some glue and got up, a boss in Shadow of Colossus?

Well then you could say the Tauren was a copy of the Minotaur from greek mythology and Shadows of Collosus copied off of any stone golem from any other video game?  Both the minotaur and stone golem have been used everywhere so I don't think you should discredit Demigod for using them.

I think I will discredit it, good sir.

Although it does look like it warrants a once over, if only to see how they pull it off.

That staff, don't you see it's a microphone and he's totally putting his soul into singing that Led Zep song. Also, he's on fire, that means ninjas can't grab him.

Re: Demi-God - Chooly - 04-04-2008

I've been a fan of combining RTS and the Dynasty Warriors gameplay together

Thats not a nice thing to say about the Dynasty Warriors Franchise.  As monotonous as the gameplay is I still get satisfaction from mowing down 100s of peon soldiers.  Granted you can get burned out on the game really quickly if you constantly play it but thats why you just DW in moderation.

Hah.  +4 for cleverness.  It's just a fun game that you can jump into whenever you want.  Plus it helps that the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms is a awesome novel that plays into a video game well.  Now if only they could make "The Iliad" with the DW engine...
