Mouse help? - ThunderStain - 10-15-2008

Iv'e had a razer lachesis for about 8 months and now its on its last legs. About 2 weeks ago the sensitivity was being werid and within the past week its unable to mouse left or right without picking it up and moving it really roughly and sometimes when i click it will shoot across the screen back and forth. Ive updated my drivers, re-installed it's software and windows. Ive cleaned it once and it helped for about 2-3 hours but hasn't fixed it again.

Sorry about all this text.

The G5 failure in this thread is strong. MX518 > G5, kthnx.

Go to a LAN, you don't even have to ask as you stare down the rows of comps and see the hundreds of 518s lined up with a couple G5/G9 fags in the middle. Big Grin

Nice, the old popularity equals superior product argument. 50 Cent ladies and gentlemen.

Re: Mouse help? - Blues - 10-17-2008

Nice, the old performance is superior with no factual basing on a product that cannot be compared on anything other than personal preference.

When it comes to peripherals, if something's overwhelmingly popular, there's usually a reason.

Wrong on all counts. I'm at school and the site I'm thinking of is blocked, but you most certainly *can* use quantifiable metrics to rank mice, and the G5 is superior iirc. Will try to remember to look it up later.

Re: Mouse help? - Blues - 10-17-2008

Rankings mean next to nothing. The E8500 C2D is RANKED higher than the Q6600 C2Q. While the 8500 does slightly better in fps for most games and runs a bit cooler in a similar system, the Q6600 runs desktop applications better in most every situation and does outperform the 8500 in some games.

Cutting this short though, mouse performance always boils down to user preference. Honestly, I doubt even half of the people suggesting the G5 over the MX518 have had a good opportunity to test the two side by side for a while and see how they handled.

Regardless, when did mice suggestions become such srsbiznss?

Good shout, fuck specs.

From the Anandtech review:

Quote:...the G5 improved upon the MX518 with a vastly improved sensor engine, software adjustable support for USB report rates up to 1000 reports per second, improved dpi selection, and better surface textures...

I'm going to assume that's because most of us aren't going to buy two pricey mice just to see which one we like better. Tongue

A G5 was suggested to me, which I bought and like. Feels great in my hand, and I like how you can swap the dpi on the fly. Although I will admit having only three settings for that makes the jump quite jarring, as I'd love something higher than the medium setting but not quite the high one. (not sure if that can be changed).
