I suggest sticking with WD for the drives, but that's personal preference.

A wireless keyboard and mouse might not be a bad idea too if you don't have them already and want to be able to use the thing from a couch or bed.

We got the keyboard and mouse already, and I feel ya for sticking with WD (Personally running on some caviar blues), but hey 2 TB with those samsungs, I got no problem there.

The higher the capacity, the more likely it is to crap out on you, and Seagate seems less reliable than WD... But the price is hard to argue with. I'd just stick with a 1TB-1.5TB WD drive regardless.

Well to far the Seagate is the choice, but I'm not buying for a while, so I'm keeping on the lookout for inexpensive WD (anybody see some good Caviar Green deals?)

WD now because they have a better return policy.

This times some really large number. Cross-shipping rules, and last time I had to RMA a 1.5TB drive I got a 2TB in return.

Looks like the flooding in Thailand has really fucked HDD prices.

2TB for $200 is insane=((( My current system drive is a Black WD 1.5, it's going for $229 right now, I purchased it for like $110



Also I have graphs of my 1.5 doing a solid ~140MB/s R/W and it's sexy.

Welp you could check Pricewatch. Looks like there are deals to be had if you're willing to sift through the chaff to find them. $130 shipped for a 1.5TB WD15EARS isn't terrible. EARX is the most recent series, they use a faster SATA standard (6 GB/s vs 3 GB/s), but the drive isn't saturating the connection as it stands so meh.

Well ill probably buy up the board and ram and dvd drive soon. I got enough parts to test it working and then I can wait on case and hdd deals.

All my sata2 drives peak at around 100-120MB/s while the sata3 drives all push 135-140, I've had them all for months now, tried and tested many times over. The improvement isn't insane, but it is noticeable, things like TF2 mapchanges are also about 40% faster.

If it's a WD Black drive with 64MB cache, you're golden.
