I looked it up and apparently the Extremis story is based on a Warren Ellis arc. But the Mandarin from what I understand is new and not from the comics.

Cliff note version:  he was a decent of Ghengis Khan  (Asian)  ,  A serious martial artist/scientist that found an alien ship and harnesses power from 10 rings.   Each ring had it's own special,  OMGWTFBBQ , ability.   So I get that in 2013,  a serious martial artist, scientist,  wizard it's going to mesh with today's era.    Ironman fought Nazi's which is now the Taliban (I get that)
but to pull a switch a roo as they did, was just jaw dropping.

Oh, and this version he's what?  a jihadist ....  If we were at war with the sweeds,  he would be
Alexander Skarsgard.    You would think that surviving an alien invasion would bring unity to the world and question religion as a whole but nope..  Everybody still thinks they are better than everybody else ..  Fuck those aliens!  we're better.    That's just one of many outside of the box thoughts on this.

oh, and flying a chanook heli over a plot of mansions, mid day,  wouldn't raise any suspicion at all when America is at Defcon 5.
I thought the switch was fine. In the terms of the overall course of the story, I'm glad that they handled it the way they did. Plus, I love me some Ben Kingsley.

I didn't read the comics so the only part that bothered me was that his name was the Mandarin but he was clearly not Chinese in any respect.
And the switcharoo I thought was awesome!  Again, never having read the comics.  In fact, I wish they hadn't revealed it earlier, when what's-his-name was setting up the filming, so it would have been more of a punch. Watched Harry Brown.

It's Michael Caine as Old Batman with a Gun. The movie is dark, gritty, somewhat depressing, and straightforward. It's a decent movie (until the ending, which was dealt with in a lazy way) and Michael Caine is a solid actor.

Watched this after seeing your post. A slower paced revenge movie but pretty solid aside from (like you said) the ending. I was wondering why I'd never heard of it before and I think it's because of the name. Unless your main character has a really awesome name, you probably shouldn't name your movie after them.
The initial ones at least were disguised as news helicopters. I think more showed up that were just straight military choppers.
Well, Defcon 5 is the lowest state of readiness. Pretty chill all around.

My roommate had The Campaign on yesterday evening and I ended up watching it with him. When this came out in theaters I wrote it off as another goofy-ass Will Farrell movie trying to cash in on the 2012 US elections. It turned out to be better than I had expected. I'm not saying it's a great movie, there are still plenty of goofy-ass bits, but the characters actually have some depth to them and have defined arcs. Both Will Farrell and Zach Galifianakis had roles that seemed a bit deeper and different from what they normally play. Farrell playing an overly competitive "career" politician who doesn't actually vote on bills and just wants to play games in his office all day, and Galifianakis playing a somewhat clueless family man who wants to improve his home district. While there are still out there moments and exaggeration played up for laughs, both characters are well grounded in their motivations and desires. The social/political commentary is also amusing if not a bit obvious.

As far as Will Farrell movies go, I think this is one of the better ones. While Anchorman still has a supporting cast that's hard to beat and Old School seems to be the "classic" everyone points to, I would say The Campaign is among the top. Don't go out and buy it, but if you see it on TV or on Netflix, it's worth a watch.

Just saw Star Trek Into Darkness and i won't go into detail yet except to say that I enjoyed it. If you enjoyed the last one you'll probably like it more. If you hated the last one you'll probably hate it a lot.

New Star Trek was pretty great! As Mission said, it's just an evolution of the first movie; fans of the first will heartily enjoy the second.

The Master was a crazy movie. Like literally crazy - it's about a crazy dude and a cult leader.

Watching Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home... and I've found myself laughing at it... quite a lot... I've been watching all the Star Trek's lately... all the movies and series.
