And if nothing else Penny Arcade is the only gaming related webcomic with (occasionally) any artistic merit.

That being said, 2PStart and Dueling Analogs are pretty alright in my book; I don't think there really are any gaming related comics out there that are consistent hits. Penny Arcade is probably the one that is most consistently decent though; maybe it's just too high-brow for you Dave.

I find Penny Arcade PAINFULLY unfunny because:
A. It's not my taste in humor
B. The character design is utter shit and stick figure comics can do better then that.
C. The writing is just utter crap imo. It's a comic that pretty much try's WAY TO FUCKING HARD to be funny, and I find that almost kind of sad.

That's going to be the case with most webcomics, especially gaming ones. Let's say I've never played TF2 before. I probably wouldn't get the "TF-Pooh" comic fanboys did a while back. You can't really call them crap if you haven't played the games they're referencing in their jokes, same goes for their comics referencing gaming industry news. Sure, you can say it's not your cup of tea, but you can't really call them crappy for it. Also, did you really just imply that Fanboys has better character design than PA? LAWL. Not sure what you mean by character design since I think they do a fantastic job, but LAWL.

Spoiler, unless its slapstick or topical humor, odds are jokes are usually cultural references.

If you don't know anything about Warhammer 40K, you aren't going to understand those Penny Arcades for example. If you didn't play TF2, nerfnow, fanboys, ect. aren't going to make much sense.
