I like being in steam and using the notepad trick so people on steam see I am in PS and can message me. It's only the official announcements that drag me to desktop.

I probably should run in a window, but that breaks the immersion for me.

Just run it at a windowed resolution close to your desktop resolution, I run windowed at 1680x1050.

I actually had the game running through Steam once, so the overlay worked and you'd get the notices in game.  Not sure what magic let me do that though. 

I was kinda frustrated yesterday coz' my new computer was being a bitch too (got it working now though).  I still don't remember the last time we got a big ass vehicle column together to blowup a bunch of shit though =/.  We need like 5 vehicles minimum.

Yeah, I wish I had the same problems as you.  It must be horrible having a brand new computer.
