I actually know a guy who didn't register, a couple years later it came up during a review of his student loans or some shit.  From what he tells me it wasn't fun explaining to the dude in the black suit he didn't register because he was lazy.

Well, I went on a wild Dog chase.

My eyes are feeling sore from looking for the damn dog.

If you don't know, I have two dogs that sounds like a wild baby on Mumble. It so happens that my dad accidentally forgot to close and lock a gate in.

Few hours later, one of them vanished.

I'm not sad, but angry. Angry at the fact that my efforts are in vain.

On the bright side, at least I can save money on kibbles.

How the US Army supports it's troops, "yes, you're in a warzone, but if your men try to defend themselves, we're going to put them under a microscope and threaten them with jail."

fuck me.

Was working at the clinic. In case I haven't mentioned it, it's a free clinic for the uninsured. It's buttfuck small, and only has one physician at a given time. It's in operation during certain mornings and afternoons, and patients are taken in and given appointments at the start of each session. Before coming in I check the schedule and find that I'm the only one working for this afternoon. Which is weird because we just got done training like 5-10 new volunteers. They're probably all people like me, kids who fancy themselves pre-med without having a fucking inkling of what the career is about. None of them seem to commit though. One or two days, then that's good enough and they leave. Anyways, shit.

Arrive and there are several patients waiting outside the front door. Never a good sign. The doctor arrives and lets everyone in, and I ask him if we have appointments already. Since the clinic is free, we rely on donations from "benefactors" who in return get to schedule appointments whenever the fuck they want. Sure enough, he says we have appointments and that he can only see two other patients today. Well shit, there are already three in the waiting room behind me. The doc goes back to his office and I'm left alone and have to decide who won't be seen today. Luckily one guy is a bloke and offers to come back later. I book the other two patients. One's quiet but the other's kinda funny, he keeps talking to random people about his life. He brings up that he went to a technical college but got kicked out for "getting in trouble". Not even an hour later and he's mentioned either to me or people over the phone that he's a felon.

Suddenly bam through the door come two more patients that were apparently waiting outside. I don't know how long each patient has been waiting but I already booked the two that were in the room. I have to turn both of them away. One later turns out to be a patient who was giving a TV interview and would mention the clinic, and who the doc wanted to see but didn't tell me. Augh. Then another patient comes in. Guy barely speaks english, but was apparently told to come in at this time. Cool, no other volunteer left any documentation. I give him a copy of our clinic calendar and have to turn him away too.

Then coming up to the door I see a patient I think I recognize from another day. He comes in and I notice he's vomiting profusely into a bag and can barely walk right. He's got some sort of helper with him, says he needs to go to the hospital (no shit? What are you doing here?). She hands me a couple of empty pill bottles, says they need them refilled. Run back to the doctor's office where he's on his computer and tell him what's going on. He says we don't have any medicine for him (we probably didn't), renews one of the two prescriptions and sends me back up front. He won't fill the other one because he "needs to see them but we're already booked for the day". When I get there the guy is not even looking straight forward, his eyes have started rolling back, jesus fucking christ. He's basically being held upright by the other person. I offer to drive them to the hospital but they say they're already going there and head out. The whole time the doctor didn't even come out to look at him. In the end the guy turned out to be diabetic and ate something he shouldn't have.

Another patient's there. Says he's having thyroid problems. Luckily this guy is also a bloke and understands that we're full up (considering we turned away the vomiting half-comatose man) and says he'll back another time. At this point the ex-felon is calling every place you can think of (looking for work I think), and asks me for the Army recruitment number. While he's on the phone he's asked what he served time for, and I hear "a couple of burglaries, credit card fraud...and battery against some medical workers". ffs

I take in the first patient and do a workup, nothing seems serious. Go back up, check phone messages. Guy called in saying he's got deer ticks on him, wanted to come in. Not much we could do. Workup the second patient, the guy's got a list of problems a mile long and keeps talking about how hard it is being a felon while I'm trying to take his vitals. Finish my workup and I hear the front door chime. Come up front and someone has left a letter to our volunteer coordinator, apparently an angry letter about how the doctor was an asshole and wouldn't prescribe her hydrocodone. le sigh. Suddenly I notice the doc hasn't seen the first patient yet; she's been sitting there for 30 minutes. Have to remind him a bunch before he does it.

Finally when both patients have left I ask the doctor about the benefactor's appointments. Oh, they were by phone. And that big 2 hour appointment at the end of the day? It was "blocking" so the doctor could get his work done. Which means we turned away 6 out of 8 patients for a pretty shitty reason. Whether it's the doctor's fault or the "system's" fault doesn't even matter, all of this sucks.

Fuck all of this. Fuck the doctor, fuck the volunteers, fuck the clinic and the entire dysfunctional system. It's idiotic that these people have to subjected to this shitty system since they don't have insurance.

Oh, and the first patient turned out to have scabies. Too bad our protocol is not to wear gloves when doing workups.

[b]tl;dr the clinic I work at sucks balls, someone was half-dying in our waiting room, and I might have contracted scabies.

Can you say 'Scabbies Scabbies Scabbies' in your heavy voice?  :p

But wow, and you wonder why volunteers leave after like a week, you should have a serious sit down with the doc in the clinic. I mean really how long does it take to see a patient....how many appointments were there?

Yeah 8Ball, talk to the Dr. and let him know how you feel about it. Taking charge is a huge part of the medical field.

Yeah, you don't have to put up with working conditions like that. I've never heard of a clinic where you have a doctor hiding in the back scratching his ass and the only other employee around is an unpaid student.

And who came up with the bullshit no glove protocol?

Cause if you leave, he'll have to deal directly with patients... remind him of that.

And wear gloves. All the time. Long ones.
Then move to Canada.
