inquiring minds want to know how the wedding planning is going.

Good, thanks for asking.

The wedding is for everyone else and the honeymoon is for you guys. If you look at it that way I think it takes some of the stress out - don't try to force it being magical for you. It's more of a way everyone gets to be celebrate and be happy for you. They give you gifts in return.

My wife and I found a place that let us do the ceremony and the reception in one place, did the catering, the food was decent, and we also bought fake flowers way ahead of time.  The hardest part of my wedding was deciding what NES game to name the tables after.  Even the table arrangements themselves were easy.  I ended up sticking some of my family (my dad's uncle and cousin and the cousin's wife and kid) at a table with my sister-in-law's parents because I just couldn't put them anywhere else.  As it turns out, they already knew each other and had lots to talk about.

While I am absolutely bragging about how well it went, I really just want to say that it's not as stressful as people make it out to be unless you want it to look like Disneyland.  If it's a slightly fancy party with your friends and family, then you already know how to do that.  Food, music, and booze.  And cake.  Lots of cake.

We got enough cake for 30 extra people and our guests still ate it all and left none for us.

Thats how we did ours. It was a hotel so we did the ceremony and the reception all in one spot and nobody had to drive anywhere at the end of the night. Needless to say, there were a lot of drunk friends/relatives.

DID NOT WANT: start a urination contest on how to, or how not to, plan a wedding.

DID WANT: to express support for community members as they prepare for new chapters in their lives.

For some reason, I see conversation about people's experiences rather than a pissing contest, especially considering that they are all related to the question you posed.

Am I missing something?

Twas a terrible accident, with no confirmed cause. But in the aftermath the community of Gander was a great support toward recovering US troops. The US military learned many lessons in the processing of those fallen soldiers, lessons that informed the action plans that sprung into place on 9/11.

Thanks, Newfies.

Newfoundlanders. Don't call us Newfies.

But yes, The people of Gander and the surrounding communities (Including my parents hometown) did an amazing job those days. My grandmother still gets cards from the families she helped.

My dad has officially been laid-off from his 25+ year job. He'll probably find something else, as he has more than enough work experience to last him, but it may require my folks moving. I probably worry about my parents too much, but I really hope this doesn't mean financial difficulties.

Wife is most likely planning her exit strategy from her current position. There is a lot of bureaucracy that is getting in the way of making sure one of her kids is getting proper care/education. He has an IQ of 64 and needs to be in a different program but the school district that he's in wants to keep him sequestered in my wife's classroom so they don't have to deal with him and her boss is rolling over for them. So, because of that and a host of other issues (mainly related to her and her colleagues treatment by the powers at be vs the deferential treatment given to a different section of the faculty) she will most likely be looking for a job in one of the surrounding school districts. The nice thing is that due to her current job, she has some credentials that are highly sought after in the area.

And I thought I was a badass for walking out on a job when my field tech position morphed into Y2K compliance engineer. Hope she gets a new job soon.

It'll work out quite nicely. The school year ends right about the time our lease is up so we'll be free to move pretty much anywhere. There are 3 or 4 good school districts in the Omaha area that she'll have to choose from.

Sounds like its going to mostly be their loss, and not just her leaving either...

I know that both her and one of her co-workers are actively going to be looking for new jobs. Her Co-Worker had a meeting with the guy who heads up the entire school and he said that fixing the problems she laid out is on his "to do list". But she got the vibe that its very very low on that list. Hell, I may try to convince her to move to like Montana or something and I can begin my life as a recluse
