Stay strong, man. It gets much more delicious now.

I didn't pass my CS placement exam, even though I've learned the material in high school. I'm a CS major and I fucking suck at programming. This just makes me question if I should be going down this path.

I don't really get it.  But I do know its stupid to try to force yourself to do something you don't like.  I am a CE major/ CS minor because I genuinely enjoy that stuff (maybe not the calc so much...) and am very good at it.  My dad majored in Chemistry for four years.  At military academy.  And he hated it every singel day.  He ended up being a systems engineer and never worked with chemistry ever again.

Figure out what you love, then figure out how to do it.

It's not like I particularly hate it (though it sometime is boring, I believe it will get more fun), It's just that I feel like a fucking failure and a retard for not understanding it even after being tested on it multiple times. I also don't know what else I would do if I didn't do CS. The only other thing I'm really good at is music and I'd rather not end up homeless.

@rums I appreciate the encouragement. We're actually watching a Rushkoff documentary in my English class lol.

If you actually enjoy it (or think you will) then find a tutor. I don't just mean some grad student who's trying to make a quick buck on the side either. Someone who's actually knowledgeable about the subject and can teach. It's like trying to find a music teacher, you're not going to pick the first bum you find offering lessons. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean you've failed. People learn things differently and the traditional methods used in education don't work for everyone. Sometimes you just need someone to frame something a different way or help you connect the dots, that doesn't mean you've failed. There's also something to be said about practicing as well, try coding some simple projects outside of your assignments to get a better idea of practical uses. Programming is about solving problems, so find a simple problem and see if you can solve it with a script or a program. If this is something you want to do then you may have put a little extra effort into it. If it makes you crazy and you don't find enjoyment in it anymore, then it's time to stop.

It does get more fun. I found certain parts of it really boring until I had an actual reason other than "We need to make sure you know how it works. Do this homework," but working on an internship now it's a lot more enjoyable.

Also, programming is a skill that can take a while to learn. I know I had a bunch of classmates who just couldn't  get it at first, then at some point it just clicked. Seems like it's like that for some people, just tough until the day you're staring at it and realize it makes sense.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm going to try to stick with it for as long as I can. I'm also taking an intro to engineering class so I may find out what my "true calling" is through there too.

I should have gone to school for CS instead of CET because I do enjoy programming a lot, and I've programmed whole Minecraft plugins before but I get bored fairly quickly and if there isn't an interesting problem to fix I get to the point where I don't want to program anymore.

Also my view on school since I've graduated and have done a few contract jobs is that I really don't want a job in the field I enjoy as a past time because I get tired fast if I'm doing the same thing over and over so I'm glad I could find a job that has nothing to do with computers.

Woo hoo ACEN here I come.

CS at first sucks. It can be boring at times, and the assignments can seem p ridiculous. However, there is a reason for this: They are teaching the basic fundamentals of programming. You can't have a house without the frame, and you can't make programs without knowing the different ways to.

Once you get past the 2nd year (atleast at my Uni), CS becomes a fucking blast. You learn alot of things, and all those things you wanted to do when you first enrolled( like Web programming, Video game programming), you actually do!.

At my Uni, CS majors are known for being some of the tougher students. We don't have a building, teaching quality is mediocre, and our resources are limited. But we, as CS Majors, goddamn persevere, work hard, and are generally known (outside of engineering) as the most employable degree here.

Stick it out, that's the best advice. I'm not the worlds best programmer, and at first I had lots of issues. It happens, and what you do to fix them will show how serious you are. Just persevere, work hard, look for people to work with, and have at her.

(I'm a 4th year CS major)

Also, I'm wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too hungover to be at work this morning.

What do you mean? I just show up, sit for the ceremony etc, grab diploma folder, leave.
My only regret would be not being at the same commencement as my friends but since they are graduating from a different college (Letters &Science) than me (Agriculture & Life sciences), they have theirs on Sun.

Not really saying one is worse than the other at all, just saying I would've gone with Caff's option rather than yours if it was me in your shoes. But I don't fit in your shoes so who cares? :V

Ah but I love smaller events (less time listening to names being called) and the only family I'll be inviting will be my parents. I am graduating for sure this December so I'm not too worried about that.
Taking pictures with friends is the only part I'm bummed about haha.
