I removed my spray wand thingee and replaced it with an aquasana dual stage filter. It produces glorious water. I will be leaving all that behind now.

Almost feels like gloating to mention living next to a Great Lake. I never worry about my tap water. Unless zebra mussels are over-breeding; algae, oh so delicious!

Lake erie is... BETTER than it use to be... but still definitely not good.

It's actually so much better that it rates higher than Ontario for swim-ability.

Michigan is actually pretty damn clean now, even around chicago. That was more true maybe 30 years ago but they've cleaned it up a lot, even the Chicago river.

i have no problem with the quality as Chicago pumps most of its drinking water currently from that lake. Its the huge population that i dislike.

Gotta love that radioactivity that does nothing more in toothpaste than make it foam.

Hey all, long time no speak. I have a question about insurance and what I should do in the near future.

My current situation is such: I have started taking college classes again, and I am going to be taking a full set of classes every semester for two years starting next fall in order to finish my Bachelor's degree. I am doing this to finish the degree as soon as I can. In order to free up time so I can do this, I need to quit my current job and start part time somewhere else. I can't switch to part time with the job I have now because of the company policy of only having full time employees on their payroll.

The problem is that the insurance at my current job is top notch, and if I switch jobs, I won't have said insurance anymore. Since I have a preexisting condition, I need insurance, in particular prescription coverage. The medication I'm on is rather expensive, and there aren't any generics for it.

My options that I see at the moment are either keep the job I'm at right now and slow down my education or switch jobs sometime in the coming months and find my own insurance. Slowing my education down will hurt me in the long run, but it may be necessary if there aren't any other viable options.

My questions are:

Should I stay at my current job or is it ok to change jobs?

What insurances are there that a poor college student can afford for preexisting conditions?

Are there any other options that I am overlooking?

Some companies offer health insurance to part time employees as well. You may want to see if this is an option at the company that you plan to work at. In my experience smaller companies are more likely to do this than larger ones. Some universities also offer health insurance to students. I'd look into that possibility as well. If neither of those are an option, shop around for insurance yourself and perform a cost benefit analysis. If you can afford the cost of your own insurance along with your other expenses with a part time salary for as long as you plan to attend school then you should be ok. Under the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies can no longer deny you coverage because of a pre-existing condition or charge you more (https://www.healthcare.gov/what-if-i-hav...condition/).

*EDIT* This is merely a suggestion based off of my experiences. I am not an expert and you should probably consult one before making any major changes in your life.

Don't forget about being able to be covered by your parent's plan if you are under a certain age as well

Does anyone here believe the "Check Your Privilege" thing that's been going around?

It seems to me the line of thinking that implies people are pre-installed with things that make them better than others is the same logic racists use.

Never heard of it before today. Went and looked it up.

It's pretty flawed logic to be essentially discriminating while trying to fight against discrimination.
