dude stole $2 million worth of chips from the Bellagio, currently on the run.

So retarded, you have to TAKE THEM BACK to cash them.....
Plus I believe most major casinos now have rfid chips in their ... chips, which individually serialize each token.
Also allows the casino to instantly know how many chips are at each table, track their ownership, detect forged chips, etc.
All very big brotherly.
It's a _casino_. You go there to give them your money. Of _course_ they're going to make sure none of it wanders back to you. It's just good business sense.
If he sold the chips to other people who were willing to cash them in, or at the very least gamble with them (so that they received different chips back) he could make a lot of money, just in small amounts.

Welcome to Laundering 101.
I think you're both missing the point. They don't put RFID chips in the chips, to read them when they recycle them back out to the tables in the back. Serial numbers would make sense for that, possibly. The readers are in the tables, to catch when people bet when they aren't supposed to etc. If they logged the chip ID's of the stolen ones, as soon as you put one down, large men in uniforms will escort you to the back of the casino. And you don't want to go to the back of the casino.

It's like stealing a stack of individually serialized monopoly money. It's useless, because as soon as you go to use it, you'll get arrested. HERP A DERP.

You imply that the chips you're laundering are going to people who would think about this against 'Hey, this is a cheap casino chip'.

They're more likely to believe they're counterfeit over stolen.

Just the fact that you use a Yahoo email account is enough to bring scorn around here.
