kinda unrelated but kinda on topic, has anyone else had any sleep paralysis experiences? i remember when i was like 8 i was just getting over my fear of the dark and was sleeping without a light for the first time and i had SP. i dreamed these 2 big 7 foot tall things in like massive trench coats came into my room and just watched me. it was horrible cuz since you're paralyzed you cant do anything and i was trying to scream but i couldnt. probably the scariest thing ive ever experienced

Yah once. I was a little kid and really, really sick. I had a really high fever (103 I want to say) and I was just drifting in and out of sleep. I woke up and realized that while I was completely conscious, I had no ability to move whatsoever. I felt like my skin was on fire, but I couldn't move or turn on the fan. I honestly don’t remember very much of that night, I was really drifting.

It seriously makes you wonder…what if when you are in a coma it is like that. You can hear people talking and everything, but can't move. Scary stuff. Isn’t that what “One” by Metallica or whatever is about?

thought of another experience, i was like 5 and my brother and i shared a bunkbed. he was bsing me about how there was a chicken living under it and if you fell off the bed it would grab you and drag you under. so ofc i fell off and got FREAKED OUT. i swear i heard and saw it and everything. i woke up pretty quickly and started screaming at the top of my lungs. fucked me up for days but now i just think its kinda funny

edit: getting everything blown off is worse than a coma i think cuz you have no hope of ever regenerating or something but if ur in a coma u might think you can wake up some day

I had sleep paralysis twice as a kid. It was pretty scary, but I was conscious enough that I didn't dream weird shit happening around me, so it could've been worse.

Also "One" is talking about this book, which, as you might expect from the plot synopsis, is really depressing. The music video used clips from a film version, and they actually bought the full rights to the film because it was easier than doing a licensing agreement.

No, not just "in basic training", but "in basic training AGAIN."  There's some inane explanation about needing to go back through OCS to recommission regular army and having to go to basic first.  And what's scary is I've seen them do stupider things to people in tradoc...

I love how the conscious mind shuts down when your body is under that much stress. Like, nigga please I don't have the energy to be hallucinating, just pass the fuck out so I can focus on getting better.

Had my second run in with sleep paralysis ever two nights or so ago (my first experience happened this year as well... that one was very short, but it was pretty nasty).

My mind was in a (somewhat) conscious state but my body wanted nothing to do with it for a good 30 seconds or so. If I remember correctly, the skin on my arms and hands felt like it had hot sparks going across it when I tried to move them. It was weird.

Pretty unsettling, but I was able to keep it from turning into something nightmarish due to being at least partly conscious.


In other news, I still can't remember any of my nightly dreams.

Yeah, at least you didn't have like a full-blown sleep paralysis attack. Thankfully I never have but those can be pretty fucked up.


As for dreaming skills... do you write down what little you do remember? It helps, even if it doesn't seem like much, to write it down and to get into that habit so you can slowly remember more and more. I still do this almost daily, writing down whatever it is even if it's just a little bit of nothing. Impressions, plot, whatever.

My dreams have gotten timid as shit, I went from raining fire, destroyed buildings and skeletons walking, to my brother waking me up for ice cream.

If you are stressed over something that might be why. Not sleeping as well or as deeply as before for whatever reason might be enough to stop that, and stress is what usually does that for me. Everything changes when I'm well rested with little to nothing bothering me.

[/quote]I read in a dream dictionary that an apocalyptic dream is usually a sign of deep personal revelation. I guess it was me getting fucked up storing up my story for so long, or perhaps me admitting I'm beginning to distrust myself or motives. I don't know, maybe the dream with my brother eating ice cream is myself patting myself on the back or treating myself, or maybe its saying i'm a giant pussy and I'm licking my wounds. Dreams suck.

Take dream dictionaries with a HUGE grain of salt. They are usually only so helpful, because the meaning of dream content is often highly specific to the dreamer. So to someone a snake might be an image of power, to some one of fear, and to others just a snake. There is only so much a generic book written about dreams can tell you, since your own will be more specific and personal.

Pay attention to your own dreams and patterns. You should be able to pick out themes and dreams that seem more important to you or that stick out more than others. These are probably the images and issues you ought to focus on, not the ones you are told are important by someone else.
