And his first film? It's based on a comic done by Frank's late mentor: Will Eisner.

To be honest, I would have appreciated another style for this one.  Come on Frank, you have two other Sin City's in the works, and it would have been a good chance to seperate it from your other works (on film).

Well, i'm sort of looking forward to this movie.    Sure, there's gonna be Sin City 2.

But here, he's making a movie about a comic that he didn't create, but he knows the character.

I'm super freaking excited, is this a new trailer?  I posted the teaser here.

Will Eisner is one of the first major comic creators that took the medium seriously and really developed it as far as a respected storytelling medium.  I've been meaning to read his stuff, but I did read his books on graphical storytelling and narrative art.  It's amazing how much thought goes into each panel.

The spirit is supposed to be one of those stories that seams to be something goofy and pulpy but turns out to be surprisingly deep.

I think the style fits for the story.  I really got it, but I think it may not have been obvious to everyone.  If you look the movements and the style and everything just oozes 50's Noir detective, and that more or less is what the spirit is.

Ya, I should have expressed that I'm also looking forward to the movie.  I'm just saying that I think the choice to all-but recycle the style Miller used in Sin City is a bit of a let down that could diminish The Spirit in it's own right.

Sure, the style is reminiscent of Film Noir and does a good job to set the tone, but it's not the only way Noir can be done.  I can only assume that people on the outside looking in are going to just consider this a spin-off, or even a sequel to Sin City, instead of recognizing it as its own unique series.

So it could be a case of miller ripping off eisner, but since one became mainstream before the other it seems the other way around?

No, Miller's not ripping Eisner off, I just think that Miller is taking the easy route for the film.
