Was wondering if we might install a few new themes to change up the look of the forums?  The look nice now but its almost like the toy you got from the store that you haven't taken the wrapping off of ye, still has the default feel.  There are a load of free themes for Simple Machine Forums that you can find HERE though.  They are made to be easily installed and are all compatible with these forums.

Heh. We've talked before about getting a new theme. Specifically making one, although if there is one already out there that looks good I'm not against using that. It seems to be one of those things that falls off in favour of other things going on though (like our domain name). Thanks for the link though! Smile

Lack of contrast makes the eye ignore what it cannot differentiate. And I could only feel when I cut myself while reading the  forum index.

Well there is a Valve themed one, specifically a Half Life themed one with changing backgrounds that might be fun to play around with.  The information about it can be found HERE and they have a demo up of it to play around with and check it out HERE.

Some other themes that might be interesting are:
UseBB Port - A direct port of the popular UseBB default theme
Pn-Pn - A simple theme with multiple color choices
Absolute II - A more professional looking theme

Those are just a few that I kind of liked.  None would be as cool as our own theme but I was kind of thinking that we could take the Half Life one and mod it to our own desires or even better contact the author and ask them to modify it into a TF2 theme.  It probably wouldn't take more then a week or two to mod up.

Personally liked the Pn-Pn green theme.

BUT I don't think useing a premade theme is a good idea. I personally think I site should have red + blue and am more in favor of making our own (I'm sure it's nothing Joel can't handle)

But does Joel have practice making one for Simple Machine Forums?  I have never made a theme myself but is the structure similar to other forums?

All aspects or just certain color interactions?  Genuinely curious.  I know the red "Admin" on the blue at the bottom of the 'shot is hard for me to pick out 'cause of my color deficiency, but I like the rest of it because I prefer a toned-down background with bright text.  My pupils are too dilated in the morning for what we got now  Big Grin (j/k).

By popular demand (and because I wanted to see if installing a theme is easy) it's installed. It won't be the default theme (at least not currently), but anybody should be able to change their theme by going into the layout option in their profile settings. The theme is blackandblue115 I think. Smile

When "our theme" is decided, I'll reset everyone's selection to that but in the meantime feel free to change it to your favourite of the available ones.

my glasses are pretty scratched up, so anything dark with light text becomes really blurry and makes me much more aware of the scratches then a bright theme with black text.

The theme is actually labeled 'black and blue arcade theme'  It is the last theme in the list.

I got what you're sayin'.. yeah, that'd drive me nuts, too.

In any case, thanks Scotty for adding it to the choices and letting us give it a spin.
