Test drove a Golf tdi, GTI, a 2008 Audi A4, a 2008 BMW 328 sedan, and a new Mercedes C300 today. And looked at a 2002 BMW M3 convertible (it would be the most ridiculously irrational but awesome choice I could make).

Fun stuff.

I feel very, very lucky to be able to have this sort of dilemma on my hands.

Keep looking and find a manual. Look at the 128i too. I'd say look at the 135i/335i but I don't know what your price range is and those have fuel pump issues.

Keep looking and find a manual. Look at the 128i too. I'd say look at the 135i/335i but I don't know what your price range is and those have fuel pump issues.

The only manual 328i around here within my ($25K-ish) price range is a complete stripper, and finding any non-M3 BMW with a stickshift is a challenge. A 128i would be a very sweet treat, but the chances of finding any 1 series at that price is even smaller.

Yes. The one I looked at was a well kept convertible with a manual transmission.

Except that you get no factory warranty or certified preowned option for those. It would be a blast, but dealing with the maintenance and upkeep would cost a ton of money in the long run and just wouldn't make much sense for me.
