Got my driver's license and a car.  Fuck to the yes.

It all makes sense now.
They do have that 2:1 bike to person ratio....or was it 3:1. A useless fact I learned in my Dutch history class.
But Amsterdam, that sounds like a great place to live. (and I could join my friend on the national ultimate frisbee team Big Grin)
[/quote]It's a nice place to visit, too. Especially since there's a brewery right around the corner from where Ain lives. And the brewery? It's in a fucking windmill. Right on a canal. I challenge you to get more dutch than that.

Thanks!  It's a 2001 Subaru Forester, given to me by my grandmother.

Unfortunately, because I'm such a nice guy, my sister has been using it more than me since her car just died and she needs to get to class.

But yeah, I never really needed a car/license before now, so I just never go them.  Luckily my Nana inherited a some money after and Aunt of hers died, and she decided to buy a new car for herself, and decided to let me have her old one.

Also, I brought my ipod to listen to while I was waiting.  Hit shuffle, and this came on.  I had to resist the urge to burst out laughing in the middle of a very crowded DMV office.

I think it was 2:1 and yeah, this city is made for cycling. I make better time on my bike than cars do for anything worthwhile in the city. It takes me 5 minutes to get to work, less than a 5 minute walk to get to the grocery store and the major nightlife areas are 15 minutes away. Of course, cycles here are king of the road and cycle paths are ubiquitous.

It's kind of like that in Tuscon. Lot's of suburban areas, as well as plenty of bike paths. I wish it was like that over here, then I would ride my bike more. :L

Suburbs make a cycle lifestyle a lot harder, I'm convinced that one of the reasons it works here is that Amsterdam is a very compact city, putting a lot of people in quite a small area with most points of interest centralised in a few areas.

Plus you can learn how to fix it. Tools you will need, 10mm wrench, 12mm wrench, 14mm wrench, 17mm wrench, pliers.

don't forget to learn how to put a jack on a car too. Seems obvious but there are people out there who think you can just put it anywhere.

Subarus have six 'official' jack points. The four pinch welds, on the rails between the wheels; rear diff and the 'block' on the front crossmember.
I am still tempted to have AP Racing air jacks installed.
