All right, I'm being faced with a bit of a dilemma. I'm running a machine with the Windows 7 Release Candidate. With the release date veering ever closer (2 days now, I think?), I realize that I have to make the upgrade to the full version of Win7. Else, come spring, my computer will begin shutting itself off every two hours (Thanks Microsoft!). However, even though I've built my last two computers (this one included) and installed the operating systems on either, I actually don't know how to "switch" Operating Systems. I haven't the foggiest how to uninstall my current version of the RC, or how I'll then move to installing the full version. Can anyone help a painfully inexperienced user?

I'd rather get this out of the way as soon as possible; seeing Bonesinger's godly desktop left me hankering to customize my own rig, but it's pointless if I'm uninstalling soon anyways. For reference, I am willing to purchase the Home Premium version of Windows 7, but I currently have no idea how or where I am going to acquire it.

Already done with the first part, but I've actually never straight formatted a disk. Haha, I know command prompt has a command for it...

Actually, I think I've found a way. Give me a bit.

This.

I personally like to dump/delete all active partitions when at the prompt for an install destination.

Or you could just get the upgrade and you won't have to do any of that.

You'll have to change a number in a file inside the W7 DVD, and you'll have to upgrade only to the W7 Ultimate Edition (as that is what the RC runs on), but it'll do the job just fine.

The above only won't work if you are super paranoid and MUST re-install after every OS upgrade even if you've only used the OS for a few months.

See:

EDIT: Actually just kidding.  You can install to any RTM version of W7 with the RC as long as you do a registry change first.

Might be a good time for a backup and format anyway though.  But yeah, do it through the OS install process.  And make fucking sure you've got solid drivers ready to go.  Don't forget the hell I had getting things to run in AHCI SATA configuration.  Windows vista was supposed to support it out of the box, but it didin't.  7 should, but have all your drivers ready to go on a CD and USB drive.

<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills

<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

Yeah, it looks like all I really needed to do was get the Win7 disc. Herp I'm a derp. I looked into what you mentioned Korjax and yeah it seems that's the plan for me. I bought Win7 ultimate using a student discount. Now I just have to wait and pray that it makes it to my dormitory mailroom. Thanks for the help guys. +1's all around.
