Honestly I lost a lot of interest in BF4, if I can't get "Play Now" players AND control my own server... I have little interest in playing at all.

I didn't have time as of this post to iterate why it's a bad idea.

Okay, here's what this does, if players are "closer" together they get an increased bandwidth handling between each other on the engine, this is fine for close quarters, but ultimately the issues with net code in BF4 have had to do with distance play. And considering primary gameplay (other than CQ) is vehicle combat, and distance combat, it doesn't fix anything, and if anything will cause distance play more lag by allocating less resources to it.

i kind of feel games with good coop (killing floor) or good coop with story (castle crashers and dark souls 2) are far superior to big 32+ multiplayer titles.
I burned out on the realistic shooters with BF3, and PS2 has basically made me want to take an extended break from that genre for now

I started playing. It's actually a good upgrade to BF3 (better than I was expecting). I got called a useless sniper in my squad that couldn't hit anything and got mowed down for not paying attention. I ended up 1st place that round with the most kills and best cap score on the team. Obviously I trolled him and blamed EA for giving all us crap noobs the game for free.

There's no doubt it's better than BF3.

But it's not BF2: HD (which is all anyone who ever cared about Battlefield when it was good really wants).

Also there's the whole "official server" fiasco.

If you don't know about the "Official Server" fiasco.

EA Put in a feature for server administrators to get their services listed as "Official" Servers, this is all well and good except for a few things:
1: Official Servers are the ONLY servers that auto-join works for (this is the lifeblood of any popular server and without it you're fucked, so guess what, no modifications to basic game modes, ever, that includes if you were to turn on "Hardcore" mode (which turns on FF).
2: Official Servers can NOT execute banning, kicking, or any other administrative player control whatsoever (completely disabled and API turned off for those functionalities).

This was put into place to aleviate the "badmin" situation. But ultimately it does this: The anti-cheat systems are not perfect, so, a good eyed administrator can watch for cheating effectively (since there is a halfway decent spectator mode with first person available now), but guess what? They can't do shit about it.
Or how about just a general jack off who decides to be an irate dickhead and ruins the game for everyone else? Nope, can't do anything about that too!
How about that guy who just keeps spawning in the flight vehicles and intentionally crashing them into the ground? Nope.

EA will say "Well why don't you play on non-official servers". That wasn't the issue, I RAN a server, I WANTED the quick join players, but I'd like to have some semblance of control over the server. But that flew out the window, so I cancelled it.

Also I always felt the "You MUST have expansion x even if the server is playing a non-expansion map" was stupid ever since BC2.

As do I but soon to be married. Looking for new place and better paying job. I can say this though.  I personally enjoyed the hardline beta well enough to pre-order. Pretty much all my time is going into work lately.
