I want to put together a computer, prolly not going to be for a little while but, if someone could look over this build and first: tell me if it would work, and second: give me suggestions for anything i may be missing such as cables and stuff.

Case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811146041
Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813138102
RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820231098
GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814143118
CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819103773
HDD's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6822136055 2 of these in a RAID 0
PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817226007
Optical Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6827151171
Case Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811999138 Going to replace the blue side fan on the case cause i like red better

Also, what is thermal grease, and do you think i should pick up a CPU cooler?
My biggest worry is that i wont have enough cables to go to everything and/or they wont be long enough
This would be my first build and i would be very grateful if someone would go over everything and make sure it is compatible, i have checked everything but i am a noobie as far as putting the computer together goes.
it would be much easier to just link my newegg wishlist, but i cant get it to work public.
I thank everyone in advance!

Everything is compatible as far as I can tell.
Thermal grease is the stuff you put between the processor and the heatsink (on top of the processor). It pulls the heat out of the CPU and the heatsink pulls the heat out of the thermal grease. The better the thermal grease/heatsink/fan, the better.
I'd highly recommend you got a cpu fan and a tube of thermal paste, you'll get much better cooling from an aftermarket fan than a stock one.
Just make sure that the cpu fan is the same socket type (AM2) as your motherboard's.

Nah, that thing is ginourmous and if it's your first build you'd be pulling your hair out trying to get it in.
This one's better: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6835186010

Zaneyard, here's an example of what is WAY WAY WAY too much thermal paste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aU2_uP9S9Gg&NR=1

Basically, your best bet is to follow the instructions provided with your heatsink. I would pull up a video to show you how to do it, but having watched over a dozen videos on youtube, I am convinced no one in the internet knows how to do that shit right and post it online. You don't put tape on anything, you don't touch it with your fingers (oils), you don't put too much paste, etc etc etc. You just want the smallest film ever, a film so thin it's translucent. If you're a nub to it, go with some kind of silver-compound, it's more friendly to you if you screw up and put too much, it just needs to be enough to cover it.

In general, this is why I suggest n00bs stick with stock CPU and heatsink. It's got more or less the proper amount of paste on it, as long as you don't touch it with your fingers you're gold.

For your edification (ie tldr version of what Surf said)

Why do we need thermal paste? Well, the answer is that it is absolutely impossible to manufacture a completely smooth surface. Furthermore, with most materials, the surface is usually pitted with billions of micro/sub-microscopic cracks (one of the reasons most materials fatigue). Yes, it is possible to make machined surfaces with surface finishes on the order of nanometers, but as of right now, it is impossible to manufacture products with that kind of surface finish without a ridiculous amount of added cost. So for now, imagine that your cpu and heatsink have rough surfaces with millions of tiny cracks. Those surfaces aren't going to transmit much heat to each other, are they?

So we fill in the cracks and unsmoothness with thermal paste. The problem is, while your CPU and heatsink transmit heat extremely well (they're metal), that thermal paste does not. Imagine it's like a thick glue. Heat travels from one side to the other very slowly. With too much thermal paste, it's the paste that ends up being the bottleneck on your heat transfer. So even a $1200 CPU cooler ain't worth shit if you smear on too much paste. So you want to use just enough paste to smooth up the surfaces, but not so much that you massively restrict heat-transfer from the CPU to the heatsink.

</super-boring rant>

So just to make sure, with AMD CPU's, I just drop a dab and let the paste get sandwiched between the heatsink and CPU, no spreading?

Did you tend to overuse the expression "need a hand" around her?

I'm glad my boss is just a 20-something PHD candidate with a sense of humor. Telling him what was so funny might have been super awkward.

Looks good. When you buy stuff, make note of the warranty length. That way if you get boned, newegg might replace it for you. Good luck when you do get around to building it, and let us know how it turns out ;D
