Went and saw the new Captain America movie. Was more than pleased with it, it's my favorite marvel movie now, and my favorite movie of the year at the moment.

better than the first two xmens?
Yes, because there was a complete lack of Gambit in any way, shape, or form in those two movies.
first two xmens pale in comparison to first class, anyway. First Class was really fucking good.
First Class was great, especially the quarter scene. Cap is still better in my eyes though.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 07-29-2011

Well, the audio review died so I might as well go over recent movies I've seen.

M:
Very well done talkie film by Fritz Lang. Really breaks into the paranoia of a town with a murderer on the loose as well as being a very-well paced film.

Captain America:
I loved the first half....hated the second. Wish the podcast had worked, otherwise I wouldn't have to type this out. The origin story is great, but as soon as the cap rears his ugly mug the movie falls apart into a sequence of things that happen instead of continuing the story.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956):
Pretty good for a b-movie. While it doesn't have many special effects, the acting is really good and the story is told uniquely, almost like a detective or Noire story. I recommend it.

Bowling for Columbine:
Pretty good doc by Michael Moore. Thoroughly entertaining as well as being informative about gun violence in America and other parts of the world.

Re: The Movie Thread - Maxon - 07-29-2011

Watched Your Highness...Basically imagine a mid-budget fantasy epic, but then you just add "Fuck" every few lines to the dialogue lol I did chuckle a couple times, but it's really a stupid movie...Unless you just love the everloving shit out of Danny McBride and James Franco, I would not recommend this.

Also don't remember if said already, but I watched the new Arthur not long ago.  Was not the bad movie I was expecting.  They made it seem like they had gotten rid of the drunk aspect, and I thought I had heard that, but the very much did keep the drunkeness in, and then just turned up the man-child aspect even more.  Would recommend it, unless you just don't like Russell Brand, cause this movie won't make you think otherwise about him.

He really doesn't act and instead just plays himself.
similar to Will Ferrel

I think the funniest thing about Bowling for Columbine is video the one metal detector company sent to schools to get them to buy metal detectors. Nobody is going to be able to walk around without being noticed walking weird with that much weaponry stashed. Not to mention the fact most of them aren't able to be drawn fast enough.

It's the best of the three I will say, but it still has some stupid plot stuff, some horrible humor, but the action is still big and flashy, with lots of destruction and violence.  If you liked the action of the last two, you'd probably would want to watch the third.

Re: The Movie Thread - Sogo - 07-30-2011

Movies have me deeply depressed ATM. 30 minutes or less looks promising, but I'm not gonna be going to any movies until the shock of Neil Patrick Harris agreeing to do the MOTHERFUCKING SMURFS movie wears off. Why Neil Patrick Harris?? You were in Doctor Horrible!

Re: The Movie Thread - Surf314 - 07-30-2011

No one has seen cowboys and aliens yet?

Re: The Movie Thread - Hobospartan - 07-30-2011

I have!

'Twas good, not great.  Reminded me of Snakes on a Plane, exactly what it says on the tin, and a lot of fun.  The aliens were kinda dumb, and the movie kinda turned me off at one point with the sheer ridiculousness, but I'm still happy I saw it.

It feels like it had 8 writers, because it did have 8 writers.  it doesn't matter how good those writers are, the story goes into a million places at once.

I do like how alien it makes the aliens, and the action is OK but not great.

I should have seen captain america instead, but no where near me is showing it in 2d....

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 07-31-2011

I can't wrap my head around how they made a movie called "Cowboys and Aliens" unbearably boring.

I saw that movie a couple of years ago in school. Pretty good stuff. We watched it to see some cliched stuff from old invasion movies. (Like how the lady actors usually a squealy lady that never looks bad when she gets all messed up in splosions and shit. Also the invasion movie part of it, comparing the aliens to commies)

Because, like Snakes on a Plane, it was all too forced maybe?  I haven't seen Cowboys and Aliens, so I'm just going off what I've heard, but that's what I'd assume is the culprit.
