I've seen stuff like King of Kong for games, or for music, I've seen the Iron Maiden Flight 666 and two good metal documentaries, but I'm up for checking out anything right now.
There's one called King of Chinatown which is about a guy who's basically the con-artist of the fighting game community, not really sure how appealing it is to someone who isn't in that community, but the only other video game documentaries I know are ones for the fighting game community. Here's another one called I Got Next which you can watch for free on Hulu.

Hulu - I Got Next - Watch the full movie now.

Re: The Movie Thread - Maxon - 12-30-2011

Yeah I'm not a fighting guy in particular, but I could find some entertainment value in them if they are still about gaming.  I'll give both of them a look.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Craig-version) was really good. Very violent, Fincher-style, and had a very similar vibe to Se7en. Great acting, great sound design, great cinematography, and great soundtrack.

Good to hear, as the book was utter shit.

Re: The Movie Thread - Squishy3 - 01-01-2012

So the Swedish film's Lisbeth Salander was the fortune teller lady in Sherlock Holmes.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 01-03-2012

Watched Cocoon tonight. I liked it, but it felt like it was trying to cram way too much in a 2 hour movie. Hell of a score though.

Re: The Movie Thread - [SiN] Merc - 01-03-2012

Man, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sure did like its rape.

Watched "The Great Dictator," A comedy staring Charlie Chaplin. (Was in an old-school mood, obviously.) Anyway, as I was viewing it, and having a few laughs with some friends, Chaplin suddenly went into a poignant speech that actually stuck with me. I was impressed, and so emotionally drained that I had to wait on watching "A night at the opera" until my mood improved.

Charlie Chaplin Speaks

Even better with very appropriately matched music:

The Great Dictator - Speech (Charlie Chaplin) & Inception Soundtrack - Time (Hans Zimmer)

i dont even know what it's about but someone told me it was good

Do it. Exceptionally will put together film, great premise, phenomenal acting.

Can't wait til Karth finds this Smile
Cocoon was a great so-bad-it's-good-movie.
And OHMYGOD DAS BOOT. Absolutely brilliant.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 01-04-2012

Das Boot was long, but after what Black Aspen did with the film, I've got nothing to complain about.  :p Really good movie, superbly done.

As for Cocoon, I liked it and thought it was pretty sweet. Not necessarily great, but good enough to waste 2 hours.

Yeah I did. I really enjoyed it but I saw the ending coming a mile away.

That's the point though.

Re: The Movie Thread - Maxon - 01-05-2012

Just watched Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame and I really enjoyed it.  It's a subtitled, Chinese, wire stunt type movie, so if you don't like that kind of stuff, I'd probably pass, though it's a bit less over the top than ones like Crouching Tiger.  Still unrealistic, but more about creating a flair to the fighting and action that was fun to watch.  The main character is like an ancient Chinese version of Sherlock Holmes, trying to solve the case and I thought it worked fairly well.  It even had some pretty good effects and they managed to hide or use less of the shoddy ones, though they have moments where they stand out, like Dee having to fight a couple of CGI deer, which was kinda silly, and some other spots seemed iffy, but overall not a bad movie. I'd recommend it for a watch if you don't mind this kind of movie.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 01-08-2012

Mission Impossible (not the current one) was silly.

All of them were.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 01-09-2012

Brazil was the best movie I've seen in a really long time.

Yeah, loved his work with Monty Python. What should I put next on my queue of his? I've already seen Imaginarium of Parnassus, 12 Monkeys, and this. Fear and Loathing perhaps?

Re: The Movie Thread - k0ala - 01-10-2012

Yes Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas very yes.
Make sure and read the book sometime too.

Avoid Jabberwocky.  It sounds like a good idea, but it isn't one.
