I was expecting you to pop up somewhere when she started mentioning the crew. Dissapoint.

That's cause I was the one filming the behind the scenes... Scenes.

Don't worry, if it ever gets picked up you'll see a lot more of me! Big Grin

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 09-05-2012

LA Confidential was excellent. Guy Pearce deserves more leading roles.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 09-07-2012

Punch Drunk Love was surprisingly good. Adam Sandler gives a fantastic performance and the whole movie is really well done. It's on Netflix instant if any of your are interested.

Now I'm even more excited for The Master next week.

Saw Raiders of the Lost Arc in IMAX tonight. Pretty cool if you're a fan or have somehow avoided seeing it your entire life. Picture was pretty good but the biggest improvement I noticed was the score. They're doing all four movies in a row next weekend, not sure if it's a local thing or nationwide.

Re: The Movie Thread - rumsfald - 09-10-2012

I've always wondered: Does Belloq eating a fly look more boss in imax?

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 09-10-2012

Speaking of awesome picture quality, can't wait for The Master this week. It was shot on 65mm film, only 5mm less than IMAX.  :o

Doesn't hurt that it's another Paul Thomas Anderson film either, the man's a genius.

Samsara is also out. If you liked Baraka you should see it. And if you live in a city that's playing it in 4k you should see it there.

Yes.

Re: The Movie Thread - rumsfald - 09-11-2012

For those not in the know, The Master is about scientology.

For those not in the know, scientology is to pastafarianism as fried clams is to linguine.

Also, @Karth, that shot looks awfully trite.

The Jesus Christ Pose just isn't the same after Omega Man.

edit: and looking at Ryu's english VA's imdb page he is in the movie

Re: The Movie Thread - rumsfald - 09-12-2012

that Jane Lynch animation is too great for words.

Re: The Movie Thread - rumsfald - 09-12-2012

Sorry for the double-post.

I don't have a TV (just passed year 2 without and not missing it at all), but I just went to watch a youtube video and got an ad for a remake of Red Dawn.

Excuse me, but WHAT THE FUCK? Red Dawn le originale was brilliant because it was shown when cold war tensions still ran high. (see, Sting's brilliant solo effort The Russians, When the Wind Blows, The Day After, Bear in the Woods ad, etc. ).

Remaking Red Dawn is a terrible idea.

Welcome to Hollywood for the past 5-10 years.

Then don't support it.

I hate to state the obvious, but the only way to send Hollywood the message, that we don't want any more of the shameless remakes/reboots they've been dishing out, is to just ignore it entirely. Don't get a free ticket to see it, don't pirate, don't rent the DVD, etc.

My favorite part is that they replaced the Russians with the Chinese for the script and filming, then made the big bad guys North Korea in post production.  Because Kim Ill Sung and His Merry Men can really threaten us and clearly aren't a stand in for the Chinese because god forbid we alienate China with a masturbatory American war film. b)

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 09-14-2012

Saw Snatch tonight. I guess I liked it?

Re: The Movie Thread - at0m - 09-14-2012

Wreck-it Ralph looks amazing. I'm going back to Chicago for my 10-year high school reunion opening weekend though, so I might not be able to see it right when it comes out.

I liked Snatch, and then I watched Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels which has a sorta similar plot, most of the same actors, and the exact same visual/production/direction style. Now they're intertwined in my head and I have trouble separating them. I think I liked Lock, Stock & Two Smoking barrels more, but I can't be sure.

Has anyone seen Battleship? It doesn't look like a masterpiece of theater but I figured it'd be worth at least the two hours to sit down and watch it.
