Watched Blazing Saddles and Clue again. It's a great feeling getting back into movies after being so swamped for what feels like months.

I am aware, it looks absolutely stupid...

Re: The Movie Thread - Didzo - 01-25-2015

I watched Trance tonight. It's a crime psycho-thriller. It's a movie you have to pay attention to and verges on "too clever for it's own good" territory, but I enjoyed it.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 01-25-2015

After a few days to let it digest, I've gotta say Inherent Vice was a huge disappointment and I can't recommend it. I'm usually a defender of the aimlessness of Paul Thomas Anderson's films, but this around it really hurt the movie. Performances were great, a few really memorable scenes, but the movie was just overly long, confusing, and at worst, boring.

CitizenFour- Its a new documentary about Edward Snowden. Its about 2 hours long and very much worth the watch.

I saw Fight Club. It was good club.

I've not seen it, and am not especially inclined to. But, have you read a Pynchon book before seeing it, or is this opinion straight from your love of movies?

Re: The Movie Thread - Kor - 02-07-2015

Watched Heartbreak Ridge on the recommendation of coworker. Lighthearted, but 80's subculture and Clint just shouldn't be in the same film together.

Read Fight Club, better than the movie.

Haven't read the book, I've heard lots of folks have a love him or hate him reaction towards Pynchon. But even if I had, I try to separate my opinions of books and movies as much as possible. After all, books have elements that simply don't work in movies and vice versa. You have to judge it on its own rights and not on some artificial crutch.

I've got a more in-depth critique here if you're interested.

YAMASONG: MARCH OF THE HOLLOWS TRAILER on Vimeo

Can't tell if I'm genuinely intrigued or just distracted by the marionettes.

Which is funny considering Chuck himself said he liked the movie better.

I heard that. I think its because the narrative was kept intact whilst shaving a bit of the book's 'you aren't your fucking khakis' psychosis off. All the same, I felt Chuck did a better job in the book of keeping the reasoning behind Durden's actions more noble, if further afield; the movie was anti-establishment/corporate because its still really easy for people to identify with that sentiment. In the book, the ideal of
freeing oneself from the shackles of history
, is a far deeper and more intriguing premise to explore.

I cannot deny that the movie was a much slicker affair than the book ever hoped to be.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 05-28-2015

I haven't seen any posts about it, so let it be known:

Mad Max Fury Road is the best action movie I've seen in some time. See it. See it loud on beautiful 4k resolution in a theater.

Re: The Movie Thread - KarthXLR - 06-12-2015

Jurassic World was terrible, but terrible in a "so bad it's good" way. I highly recommend it under the influence of alcohol.

Re: The Movie Thread - Didzo - 06-15-2015

Jurassic World was dumb, but entertaining. It could have been far better than what it ended up being, which is a shame.

Rant:
HEY YOU KNOW WHAT WE SHOULD DO? GIVE THE MONSTER DINO AWESOME CUTTLEFISH CAMO AND HEAT CHANGING POWERS AND SUPER INTELLIGENCE AND THEN USE THEM ONLY ONCE, EVER. IT SHOULD THEN SHOW UP IN PLAIN SIGHT AND ACT LIKE A T-REX WITH CLAWS BECAUSE THE AUDIENCE IS DUMB AND THEY WANT TO SEE THE DINO ALL THE TIME DOING PREDICTABLE DINO SHIT. The whole velociraptor pack thing could have been more interesting too. And the end fight sequence was comical. Especially the very end.
---

I watched Fury Road a little while back, and it was exactly what I expected it to be. No complaints there. Would have been cool if they went all the way with the electric guitar bits and turned the whole movie into a giant, glorious music video.
