Re: The Movie Thread - Surf314 - 08-17-2009

I really liked D9. The thing that really made me happy was how it mixed "ambient storytelling" used in video games with documentary style storytelling and normal movie storytelling. It made me really happy because I love ambient storytelling for many reasons, but most of all because it treats you like a thinking person and challenges you to work out large bits of the story for yourself. I find this insanely fun to do.

Hmm new article idea.

Superbad is overrated. Just watched it and laughed on occasion. Meh.

Almost posted this as lulz....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Behind_the_Green_Door

just watched that (scanned really there's only so much gross looking hairiness I can take)

pointing out the key line in the plot descrip...
"In a psychedelic key sequence, an ejaculation on Chambers' face is shown with semen flying through the air for seven minutes. The film features several multicolored, optically printed, slow-motion close-ups of money shots"

interesting to say the least... at times it was really more a horroresque...

just my weird curiosity filling you a in once again Smile

I give it 47 too many money shots out of 10

Behind the Green Door is one of my favourite porn movies. Besides Re-Penetrator, that is. Oh, and Pirates.

Re: The Movie Thread - copulatingduck - 08-19-2009

omg

Mammoth

Perhaps one of the greatest kitchen-sink monsters ever created, this movie's eponymous creature is discovered frozen whole in the arctic ice. But when the ice melts and (of course) the mammoth escapes, we discover that not only is it a reanimated paleolithic beastie, but it's also controlled via wireless by a group of hostile aliens and it's got the power to suck people's lifeforce out using its trunk. So it's an alien-controlled vampire dinosaur. And it's pissed. Watch the alien vampire mammoth wreck havoc among drunken teens, including Summer Glau (!) at a rave in the forest!

Mammoth Part 5 SweSub

I can learn a foreign language too!

Re: The Movie Thread - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 08-21-2009

Saw Inglorious Basterds. I really liked it, but it wasn't quite on the level of Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs/Kill Bill. Parts of it just felt a bit overwrought, and there really wasn't that much fucking up of the Nazis (the footage in the trailer is almost all you get to see of the Basterds exploits.) I think a lot of it has to do with my expectations more then anything else though. I got the impression that it would be a Reservoir Dogs-esque deal, with all of the Basterds being a colorful, wacky lot with each of them having some crazy backstory. Instead, it really only focuses on Brad Pitt (who is by the way fantastic) and a Jewish refugee, who's story plays out parallel to theirs. Like I said though, that's not a bad thing, it's just took a paradigm shift, as it really was marketed as that. The chief Nazi was fantastic (very coyly evil) and B.J. Novak was great in his own way as well. Eli Roth? Not so much. All in all though, it was a great movie, just a bit bloated at times, but well worth seeing.

Bah, I wanted to see this, but my dad saw the "sex scene" rating in it and said no.

Sad

r u serius

I mean, good Lord.  It was for a grand total of... 0.8 seconds.  1.8 seconds.  I don't even think I saw nipple.  The scalping was WAY more graphic than that little wtf-they're-humping thing!

Inglorious Basterds was a competent WWII drama / thriller with memorable characterizations on all fronts, from Hans to Raine to Shosanna.  Some of Tarantino's schtick, like the anachronistic background music, big 70's-font title cards for important characters, and even the from-the-ceiling crane shot mimicking the House of the Blue Tea Leaves deal seemed to be same-old-tricks-ish.  I also agree that some of the pacing was a little stretched, like the tension leading up to one of the altercations.  The ending was a nice heaping helping of "why the fuck not?" and I have no issue with it.  Overall, Iiiiiii'm gonna have to give it... an A minus.  The good parts were good and the bad parts weren't so bad.

I liked Fight Club and I thought Superbad was retarded. (Although 40-year old virgin is hilarious, same with knocked up)
