Re: The Movie Thread - Trace - 01-18-2010

Just watched Hurt Locker and enjoyed it a lot more than I expected  ;D

Re: The Movie Thread - Surf314 - 01-18-2010

So a bit more on that movie now that I'm not on my way to bed. If you haven't heard of it "Let the right one in" is one of the best modern day vampire movies if not the best. Twilight is basically a vampire story told of conveniences, everything is just really convenient for the vampires and its basically complete service to the readers. This movie is the complete opposite. Everything is completely shitty for the vampire to the point you don't know who to root for. She's dangerous and a predator who preys on humans but like all predators its not by choice but by nature she is that way. And as the main character becomes a part of her world murder becomes more and more acceptable to the point that it is a complete mind fuck to you, the viewer, because you find yourself going "yea just kill that person.....oh wait maybe that's not the best way to do things."

Anyways great movie which is also getting an american remake with the shitty title "Let me in."

Re: The Movie Thread - ravenshrike - 01-18-2010

The Hurt Locker was good, although it was less about war and more about an adrenaline junkie who tries to justify the rush he gets. As for Twilight, it's not a VAMPIRE movie at all. Rather, it's a Mormon allegory. I present to thee, SPARKLEDAMMERUNG.

Addendum - The one thing I didn't get from Hurt Locker is why the one guy transferred from Intelligence to EOD and then expected it to be a cakewalk.

Best movie of the year? Because the Golden Globes seemed to think it was Jesus' second coming.

It's not, and as far as I can tell James Cameron is getting these awards for being James Cameron. I still think either Up in the Air or UP should've won best picture., but whatever.

Also, AVATAR in IMAX was sold-out. Sad  So we went and rented Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and loved it again.

You have to be pretty hip to think Avatar wasn't at least enjoyable.

Sure it's enjoyable, if you turn your brain off. Try watching the telescreened version where all the spiffy CGI can't keep your brain's attention and it becomes an utterly banal retread which Ferngully did better, as well as having the dulcet tones of Tim Curry.

Honestly, I enjoyed Avatar for what it was. A big stupid action flick with tons of powerhouse CG.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off wasn't as amazing as I thought it was going to be. Oh well.

Ladies and gentlemen, you are such a wonderful crowd, we'd like to play a little tune for you. It's one of my personal favorites and I'd like to dedicate it to a young man who doesn't think he's seen anything good today - Cameron Frye, this one's for you.
