I did have GH3, but once you get near the end of hard and through expert the game feels more like work then fun.

Guitar Hero 1 and 2 were awesome. GH 80's edition had a terrible soundtrack except for a few songs in my opinion. Guitar Hero 3 was terrible. Rock Band was a nice change of pace. I can do well with all the instruments, but i prefer the drums despite how far off they are from the real thing. Music selection isn't half bad either.

I'm in the same boat as Ain, I love me a good rhythm game but detest rock music.
EDIT: lulz boat |

Well to me GH had a few great songs like Pantera and Ozzy, though the game itself wasn't that great to play compared to 2. GH2 was getting better and came up with the better HOPO system and had some good songs. Personally, GH3 had some awesome songs along with a few that were kind of lame, but thankfully there wasn't anything by Made in Mexico or Red Lottery, meaning it was already better than GH1 and 2 lol Most notecharts were fine to me aside from the Slipknot song and maybe the Velvet Revolver DLC. Alot of the "overcharting" stuff that people call the game out on has been fairly overblown. With the current DLC and Aerosmith, the charts and timing window are becoming a whole lot better.
GH: World Tour is shaping up to be pretty awesome with music by Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, and some others along with rumored songs to be just as good, also including at least two songs from the big artists I listed like Jimi and Ozzy (Mr Crowley and Crazy Train FTW). Rock Band 2 is also coming out with an amazing setlist which makes the first look worse than it was. Megadeth, System of a Down, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dream Theater, Motorhead, ACDC, and Testament are leading up to be a pretty fun collection. I can only think of maybe 3 songs I actually liked from the RB 1 setlist. Everything else was DLC. |
Well I hate 99% of rock and 99% of mainstream music, I have no illusions that my music taste (Jazz/Drum and Bass/Old skool Hip Hop/Reggae/Dub/A lot of other stuff) will ever be catered to by the teeny bopper/mainstream obsessed music game makers... So I'm a difficult case... Audiosurf ftw...
ain this is exactly how i feel about it |

Those 'nerdcore' rappers are so bad... The only good "nerdy" hip hop is made by Del the funky Homosapien. (Check Deltron 3030) And I didn't say I wanted them in GH or RB... A Jazz Band would be nice or something based on another music style... They don't have to be mutually exclusive... Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it. |

How would you play rap, anyway? I can understand the vocals, but everything else tends to be just a repetitive beat. No guitar at all that I know of 99% of rap.

Well with the nerdcore crap that might be coming sometime, it's mostly catering to the vocals and drums I think. |

Jesus! What a phenomenally narrow-minded, cuntish thing to say. I'm not sure you meant it to come across as such but I consciously steer away from commenting on forms of music about which I know nothing so as not to sound condescending. To me 99% of guitar-based rock music sounds the same but to express that opinion would open myself to counters from people who might, quite honestly, feel the same about the music to which I listen. And seriously, how is a breakbeat any more repetitive than a guitar riff? |
Well most rap doesn't have guitar, but it's not like it just doesn't exist. See this and this for some examples/proof that it would work. edit: Well, what you said about repition: it's certainly true of most mainstream rap; and the Guitar Hero/Rock Band franchises are certainly sticking with a more mainstream music selection. Hopefully they'd find stuff that works, or branch out. Ripped like paper raped with ease hey scrub nerd pyros suck on these |

They are starting to dive outside of mainstream (see Dream Theater, Tool). But I like hearing all the classics too: Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Allman Bros. ect.

Still can't believe Tool is gonna be on GH. Just seems like it goes against their values, they don't even allow broadcasts or DVDs or their live shows. Although it will be pretty awesome to play schism on bass.
