Here's how pretty Unreal Engine 4 can be (according to YouTuber, around 30-40 FPS on a GTX 570)

Well, now Unreal Engine 4 is outright free including the source code... that's really big news.
https://www.unrealengine.com/blog/ue4-is-free And with that Epic fires shots directly at Unity |

[/quote] There was time where this was an anti-monopolization thing (talking about auto-manufacturers here in the US, where basically that you HAVE TO buy through a dealer in most states and CAN NOT purchase direct from manufacturer, allowing for small businesses to still sell cars without the manufacturing forcing a gouged price... this is coming a lot in Tesla stuff, but Tesla cars really do cost quite a bit to make). |

Another reason Taxi companies are pissed about Uber is because they don't have to purchase or maintain medallions or minimum rates in large cities, which is something that's actually a large portion of the operating cost of taxi companies. It lets Uber undercut them on both operating cost and price.

At least in Chicago, 1 or 2 people bought up all the medallions when they first became a thing in the 70s/80s and then lease or sell them themselves for ridiculous amounts. A Chicago taxi medallion can cost north of $100,000. The established taxi companies are just engaging in rent seeking with their bitching about Uber/Lyft. ETA: I actually went and looked up the cost of a Chicago taxi medallion for shits and giggles. Going price is $249,000. So in order to legally drive a taxi cab in the city of chicago, you have to start $249,000 in the hole. 11:35 Socks Greatbacon_work: Just accept the idea of enemas. |

Uber is challenging the game, and the establishment who has profited greatly from its current setup is pushing back. If the laws change and Medallion count is no longer limited (which was done to reduce overcrowding of taxis, i believe), then things change.
