Oh if you are planing on doing any raiding get a dedicated raid card that does the processing instead of leaving that up to the main processor and OS. I haven't actually done it yet.. but I was planing on doing a raid 0 SSD setup for the OS... lol didn't want to spend an extra $500 for that speed.

For the life of me I cannot see why you would need to RAID SSDs. They are already far faster and more secure than HDDs.

You really won't benefit at all from using a dedicated RAID controller for RAID0, as the amount of time spent addressing each bit to a different channel is next to nil.
In fact, I've tested hardware (non-offloading) RAID controllers VS a MD software RAID under Unix, and found less then 0.1% performance in striped and mirrored arrays, and under 1% with parity-computation based methods such as RAID5 and 6. These tests were done with single threaded writes, as that is what you will see most of the time in the desktop environment.

The only time a dedicated card is worthwhile is when you get into the battery-backup, redundant CPU level and even then you only will see a performance advantage when using a multi-threaded write pattern in cases like an Oracle database.

Check the whitepapers from your vendors for your ram and cpu, make sure the timings (especially for the ram, CAS, etc) and ESPECIALLY the voltage for the ram is set in the bios correctly to what your vendor states.

Too often I see ram run under-volted due to the bios assuming the SPD data.

can't figure out what is right though, the ram shows something different than the website did

I'm having the exact same problem, whenever I manually set anything it either won't boot or bluescreens pretty quick. If I leave it on auto it is underpowered but it runs fairly decent.
