I used to play regularly, then I started playing STO again.

You don't have to re-install for Steam.  You can still use your old, Hi-Rez install just the same.  I grabbed it on Steam, just for the hell of it, and it's basically the exact same thing as just adding Tribes: Ascend as a non-Steam game (which I was already doing anyways).  Still have to sign in with your Tribes account to play and such, not linked directly to your SteamID.

HOLY CRAP THAT WAS YOU?  ZaiusAmadeus, right?  I was all like, heh, Zaius, and didn't even think to ask if that was you.  Or sign into my steam friends list.

Text chat kinda sucks though, I never even notice it unless I'm dead or the match has ended.

it's alright. after you didn't respond i checked steam and saw you weren't online so i figured it was just a coincidence.

i've only really played tdm so far, but i can carry the flag the whole map and not die.

I've spent all my time in TDM, but I too, and beating the tar out of noobs.  What class/weapon are you running?  I've been playing soldier pretty much exclusively, and all my practice with the Pyro's flare gun has made me beastly with the spinfusor.

Edit: also the stuff about communication in game (that was mentioned earlier in the thread) kind of cripples any shot you might have at turning the tables in a match

I played arena, and my team blew dick, and two of our players dropped. yay getting owned 5 on 3 by spinfusor soldiers who circlejerk themselves while you're dead.

I played capture and hold or wtf/e it is. yay everyone going off and diddling themselves in separate corners of the map while the enemy holds all points. one guy going into the point being met by a spammonaut and a turret = lolgg

Uh well I guess I'll try that next. I had played it at lower levels and got completely destroyed/shutout/rapedintheface so I've been put off by it since.

Oh, BTW everybody:

Double XP event has been going on since July 4th.  I think it runs up and through Sunday.  Now's a good time to play, as I'm averaging between 3000 and 5000xp every match.  Pretty easy to unlock stuff at that rate.

I think my problem in this game is that my team is always terrible.

Played ctf and eventually got the flag, being pursued by 3 enemies all the way across the map, they finally take me down AT OUR FLAG PLATFORM and my plebeian team couldn't finish it.

Ya, that happened to me last night as well on Temple Ruins.  I chased a flag carrier (keep in mind, I'm almost exclusively a defensive Technician.  Rarely do I leave base, but my team was so crap I had to pick up the slack) all the way from our base to their base.  Caught their carrier with a well-placed Tactical Strike about 50 feet before he got to their stand.  Returned our flag, and had enough momentum to grab their flag at about 200km/h.  Took a load of damage, but managed to survive ALL THE WAY BACK to my team's flag stand.  I'm hitting VDF (Defend flag) over and over again on my approach.  I'm 2 seconds away from our stand, and I see an enemy coming from the hills to the left of the base whip by and grab the flag.  I zoom past our now empty flag stand, turn around to get a shot on their carrier while still in sight, and someone else pops me, and I go down.  Flag sits there for a good 6 seconds before one of their guys returns their flag over my corpse.  Ugh... That was like, my best life ever in Tribes, and it was totally ruined.
