So over the past month, i have been having issues with my computer and it turning off. I have went through some basic and more advanced troubleshooting to try and figure out what the problem may be.
So far it has happened at least 4 times. The first time it turned off (i make the point it just turns off like it lost power not shut down) i was playing a game.
Every time after that i usually had only a couple windows open, such as chrome, a windows explorer window, and maybe one other program, like a media player or something.

I have already tried resetting the BIOS, and checked temps, and recently tested the psu with a multimeter, switched power cables and outlets (i highly doubt this because my monitor and speakers dont have power issues at these outlets), none of this has helped.
I am pretty sure this is a hardware problem as it being the only thing that will make the computer power down without warning.

I think it could either be the new ram that i installed, or the psu is dying. I hope its not the mobo or processor.
I want to try a new psu but i dont want to buy one, and find out thats not the problem. The ram im gonna switch back and go from there at this point because it could be bad, but im unsure if that would make the computer turn off unexpectedly.

In my mind it keeps pointing back to the power supply. The computer will power off and then will not power back on for several minutes.
Any ideas or similar experiences that someone can come up with that may help would be most welcome

computer specs:
asrock z77 extreme 4 mobo
corsair vengence (8 x 2) ram
intel 3570k quad core
nvidia 560gtx ti
corsair gs600 psu

Sounds like a PSU issue to me.

What cooler are you using? OEM?

Is it's a Hyper 212 by any chance?

Also is a power strip or a UPS involved?

no cooler, my computer doesnt heat up enough to need one so no issue there.

Also i have run directly from the wall and on a power strip. It made no differences.
No issues since i changed the ram back to the old stuff on friday.

If it does it again its probably my psu

It'll defiantly get hot without a cooler... Tongue
I ask because some aftermarket coolers, like the popular Hyper 212, can touch the mobo and short out contacts. I've had it happen, nothing like a reboot every time you bump your desk.

You can try buying a PSU tester, most decent comp stores have em for $30.
Another test is pull the PSU in question, plug in a bunch of fans, then jump the green wire to black on the ATX connector. See how long it runs for.
