I know the mods I'm about to talk about are out of date (at least at this current point they are... I think) but there are mods that allow you to turn off fire spread and "magically" protect your chests with a simple /command. I think you guys should look into those mods considering what I've read in this thread alone.

I plan on jumping in the minecraft server and start marking my real estate shortly and if the trolls are as big of an issue as you say they are, I think these mods can definitely help you guys.

I don't remember reading any problems about theft or arson o.=.o the problem is words more or less >.=.> But currently, Big Brother allows us to see what happened, and undo it, don't need much else than that.

After thinking about this for a bit, I realized you are right. It's not the shop itself that's the issue, it's certain individuals on the server who provide a constant stream of tension in a game that, for the most part, should be serene and relaxing.

The commentary in the in-game chat and even in the Mumble server can make the whole ordeal feel like an elementary school playground. Sort of reminds me why I stopped playing on here for a looooong time.

+1 to that. Also, why are you yelling all of a sudden? The only reason he said don't vote if you don't play is because he doesn't want people just voting for something they aren't even involved in. Makes the voting unbalanced, and really, kinda pointless if you do vote anyway. I vote yes. I like the simple shop, and for people who are upset that the votes are winning so far, my argument for that is, if it DOES stay implemented, then just don't use it. It's that simple. No big deal. ^^

Sorry, I forgot the part where I never ever play Minecraft and am never ever going to use the server again. Of course my opinion matters, so fuck you.

Also, the fact that the majority think something is wrong with the shop (6+4 > 8, l2brain), means something should be changed. I'm sure all of us who voted no can compromise on a severely reduced shop (ie: one that doesn't eliminate any point of Minecraft).

I've not been posting other than pointless jabs at the lol's to be had here after my insanely short list of items and their possible economy values for the shop, thinking that would at the very least spur constructive criticisms from everyone but it seems to have gotten lost in the shitstorm and vaguely referenced once. So I'll ask that everyone go check this out again.


To try and boil this all down to it's basics, one side doesn't want it because it p.much turns SMP back into CMP, and one side wants it.


So I ask these questions; (I'm of the viewpoint that shop turns SMP into CMP, but as I stated in my post, I would like it for two things/reasons only)


To those that want it: How far do you want the shop to go? Is my list acceptable to you, would you like more/less than my list?


To those that don't: Which side are you arguing for here? NO SHOP!@#!, or are you in agreement with my really really short list? Again, do you want more or less?


Blind votes are too impersonal, nut up and say what you voted and give an explanation. There needs to be some order if anything is gonna get fucking done. Otherwise this thread gets stupid and locked like the other one, accomplishing nothing.

I see that more people are voting against the shop than with it, but the people who actually care enough to mention something about it in the thread are about even (can someone take tally of the votes based on posts in the thread instead of just the poll).  Until a recent update to the shop, there was no way to prevent the store from selling something to people if it was set up to buy it from them, but now that is in (using -1 as the price) we have more choices.

There is also another alternative, use that same pricepoint list (maybe expanded just a little bit with leaves and some other impossible to acquire blocks) that kirby proposed and use a dynamic pricing plugin, based on the supply/demand on the shop to fine tune the prices a little more.
Here is the list of possible economy plugins and HERE is the SimpleMarket plugin I am considering for dynamic pricing of these items.

and to clarify, I actually don't use the shop in game for anything, I choose not to use it and to maintain my own materials, the point of the shop is to give people this CHOICE.  If you are in here raging about the fact that this shop is destroying the point of minecraft, you need to remember that you still have the choice to use it or not use it, as some people (including me) would have quit playing minecraft shortly after purchasing it if it were not for the ability to mod the game to do more than just vanilla things.

I think Kirby's initial list of what should be buyable/sellable is pretty solid, and combining that with the supply/demand pricing could create some interesting economics. With the supply and demand pricing, there could be an actual benefit to seeking out and selling certain materials, as well as a penalty to deciding to build your UberMonolith solely through the purchase of stacks of cobble.  It would make the system feel like an organic part of the game rather than just a workaround to doing any of the grunt work on your own.
