To point out the maximum players per server is 8 for Left 4 Dead.

I am NOT joking, it is an 8 PLAYER SERVER.

For those who didn't know that is.

This being the case, there would have to be 2-4 servers to accommodate the players that may wish to play L4D on whatever may end up being L4D night.

What this 8 means is, 4 Human Players, and 4 Zombie Players + Zombie AI. I will say nothing more as it was previously stated that no spoilers are wished to be had.

Well, I'm hoping Valve has worked out something such that it'd be much easier for the client to also be the host. I mean, I would hope they would realize 8-player servers aren't necessarily the most efficient way to go for Dedicated Servers.

From what I understand it is ideally made for 4 players to work co-operatively and then expands to 8 if you want to do what amounts to 4v4 zombie action.  They have to have the client server thing worked out.  I'd see this as more of a spontaneous match thing based on that as in who wants to play L4D right now and then we just form up.  Those with better computers/connections can do the 8 person servers and everyone else will do the 4.

There could be some most epic 4v4 zombie tournys with this game though  ;D :o ;D :o

Actually the 8 player thing isn't an efficiency issue.

Also, "letting the PC client/server play easier" is about as impossible as you can get when it comes to valve development.

The reason for the 4v4 system is a legitimate gameplay decision.

You are 4 humans...you each have 1 life to live, if you die (and do not get revived), you are out of the game. The same more or less goes for the human players as zombies, the human zombie players are special zombie classes (like "boss creatures"), and any zombie you encounter in between is AI controlled.

I've been following the development of L4D very closely.

And yes! If you do get the XBox 360 Version you won't have to worry about a thing! You won't even have to worry about having fun, because you won't!

I wonder a little about the balance of the zombie team.  It would be kinda unfair if four of those hulk-zombies rushed the humans at the same time.  Same goes for any of the other zombie classes.

4 person co-op is going to be awesome, but unless they address the server issue it's going to be stupid.  No one is going to want to go through the trouble of setting up a 4 person dedicated server.

That's why they made it into a different mode. It'll be harder for the human side in the 4v4 than the 4vE. What's funny is not many people have successfully beaten the hospital scenario from my understanding so the 4v4 will be next to impossible, but a hell of a lot of fun. Also, the way they balanced it is the boomer, hunter, and smoker can be chosen at any time by a player, but the Tank is provided on a timer and a player is randomly chosen and it is optional to be become that zombie.

Also, I have mentioned that I will probably be hosting an L4D server right?

8 person.

And plenty of people will.

4 zombie players, 4 human players, with a number of AI zombies.

Not only is it beneficial to the game to be ran like this, those AI zombies will take up a lot of server processing power, having too many players creates a high number of prediction calculations based on pings which can turn into a number of complex calculations creating insane lag spikes.

8 player servers is plenty, this is not actually problem, it's a design decision that (if you watch the videos), makes a lot of sense and is a GOOD design decision.

Yea I meant 4 cuz I thought that I heard somewhere that the 4 person co-op will be the core of the gameplay and the 4v4 was to expand it more.

Surely, the dynamic AI will kick in if the survivors are getting their asses handed to them or vice versa? That's the point of it in the co-op mode so why not implement it in the versus.

It's been in since the creation of the game. It's all a part of the "director's" job. Changing difficulty between matches might help, but if a team sucks then they die..period. I can pretty much guarantee this game won't be for people who refuse to work in packs. I've seen so many videos of this game where people do really stupid shit that cause the whole team to collapse almost immediately. Everything from a faulty molotov cocktail throws to people not realizing there are packs of zombies behind them or around them. Infact, I think I've seen so many videos I probably know the whole hospital scenario like the back of my hand.
