I'd like to request some stout recommendations.
Also any tasty "unusual" beers.

Stout:

Avery's Mephistopheles if you can find it
Any of the "Yeti" stouts from Great Divide are amazing.

"Unusual" - most of these are going to be single bottle "bombers"

Start looking for anything with Brettomyces in it.
Sour ales most generally. Flemish styles too.
Look and see if there are any open fermented beers.  These are always weird.
Look for odd ingredients on labels

As for specific, what have I seen lately?

From New Belgium's "Lips of Faith" series, the Coconut Curry Hefeweizen is pretty amazing.
Southern Tier's Crem Brulee Imperial Milk Stout is win but quite odd.

Also find your local beer store and ask them for weird things.

<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills
<@Negate> 12121212121212121212
<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

Yeti Imperial Stout. Great stuff.

Sour beers are unusual and terrible things. Drink a cocktail instead. Or try some anyway.

Don't know if coffee stouts count as unusual for you, but there are quite a few out there. I think coffee and chocolate complement the bitterness and breadiness of beer nicely.

Dogfish Head makes a fruity sour beer called Festina Peche in the spring thats pretty good.

As for unusual beers, black IPAs and schwartz beer are interesting twists on their respective styles. They're not quite as adventurous as the previously mentioned open fermented and wild yeast fermented beers.

Went to the Northern Virginia Brewfest yesterday with some friends and my dad. Good times were had. Happy to see lots of local craft breweries there and fall season beers tended to be pretty common. Lots of Oktoberfests and pumpkin beers showed up. Forgot to try the pumpkin lager though. Now if only I could remember all of what I tasted.

oak barrel stout is a good vanilla one
also duck rabbit porter is one of my favorites
stouts and porters are pretty much the same thing

I don't know if these are available in your part of the country though :/

Tried Lafefront Brewery's Riverwest and Pumpkin Ale.  Both were not good.  Pumpkin ale was TOO pumpkiny I can still taste it 15 hours later. And the Riverwest.....just isnt smooth or anything, its like driving down a gravel road with shit suspension and a low roof on your car so you smack your head on every bump.  People say Lakefront Brewery is supposed to be good, but its just been disappointing recently.

That's not a beer, its a space station.

No seriously, if its required by law to have a flame retarder on the bottle, I refuse to believe its beer.

I'll have access to unlimited 8 oz samples of all of these for 4 hours. I tend to favor stouts, porters, other darks, and brown ales. Which ones are must gets or to-be-avoided?

I'd say use this opportunity to try new things and broaden your view on beer you might like. If you don't have to pay extra for the tastings then why not? If you get a stinker, just keep it in mind and move on to the next one. Don't be afraid to talk to the guys pouring either. Usually they're volunteers, not brewery employees, but they usually know the basics about the beer they're pouring.
