I figured I might post a follow-up. My second Droid Turbo has no issues and the battery life has been close to the advertised one. The screen really is fantastic and everything has been quick and responsive with no weird behaviors.

Thank fucking god. I've been trying to run with the volume set to vibrate but since 5, my volume rocker suddenly works with the screen off and the simple act of placing my phone into my pocket or walking will bump the switch.
Actually, the whole new notification model can go while they are at it.
So, been in the market for a new phone recently since my upgrade is available. I do want a nice phone and my choices have basically boiled down to the Nexus 6 or Galaxy S6. Galaxy S6 has nicer superficial features (tighter PPI, great camera, some gimmicky stuff) but the Nexus has some really nice long-term features (support from google, fast processor, great battery life, bigger screen).

I'm a bit worried about the Samsung Galaxy's longetivity, as I've heard lots of people complain about each iteration slowing down considerably after about a year. The other concern is that Google is going to be releasing another Nexus later this year, so I'm wondering if I should just hold off until they do that. My phone right now is really fine. There's no reason to upgrade aside from the fact it'll save me a bit of money on payments.

Opinions?
I really like my S6.  You kind of have to get a case for it but most people do anyway.  I didn't get to look at a Nexus 6 but the S6 had a noticeably better screen than every other phone in the store (including the iphone).  The screen is comfortably visible even in harsh, direct midday sunlight.
Moto X Pure and Nexus phones are coming soon!
Good; October is when I need to get my phone replaced.
