If you didn't finish an entire year, then you should probably continue, you just get a bit of a longer turn.

I'm going to go next if no new people come in to join the fortress.

We should probably put a list of the people playing on the first post:
1.TheAnyKey
2.Eschatos
3.ZargonX
4.Luca
5.Creepy
6.???

Ok, finished the entire next year.  Didn't flood the place, only lost a dwarf or two to this and that.  More details tomorrow!

The year started off with the creation of a new artifact:
It's just a puzzle box!

Work on the water supply:
-the pump in use
[Image: 3-pump.png]
-the newly-built cistern (fills from below)
-the area for a well-room
[Image: 5-well%20site.png]
-knocked a hole in the floor of the new room for the well, but the room flooded a bit.  Luckily, I built smooth walls and floor, so this didn't taint the supply.

Eschatos is voted out!  I set up an office so that the other assigned duties can be carried out, and gave the mayoral suite to the new guy.

Also, I noticed the guard captain position needed to be filled.  Looking around, I found a dwarf with a good resume:
The new captain is also set up with a suite.

Uh oh, another mood!  The dwarf swiftly claimed a workshop and found the needed goods.

Resulting in:
Maggot hats, anyone?  SPIKES OF REED.

Forces of darkness!

But then, traps and a small skirmish with the recently-improved dwarven military.  I think one dwarf was killed.

Another dwarf was taken by a mood, but was unable to find the needed items.  He was put down swiftly during his resulting tantrum, unfortunately.  Having the requested 8 dwarves on guard duty must have helped.

The final stats:
Food production's going pretty well, but there's still not enough storage space for everything the farms put out.  I buy whatever meat and drinks I can from the caravan, and have jobs set up for lavish/fine/easy meals, so that the cooks have something to do if they can't fulfill each tier of meal.

The fortress levels:

Ground.  I don't believe too much changed here.  Finished a wall on the north side, and made a second refuse pile to pull usable skulls, shells, and bone.  The small hole north of the wall is over the water channel from the pump, and can be a water source if that channel is full.

Floor one.  The pump and channel are here.  I added a hole in the channel (while it was dry) to the temporarily-flooded well room below, so water could be harvested out of it.  Also expanded furniture storage.

Floor two.  Farms, and further furniture storage.  If you see dozens of plump helmets, etc. sitting here, it means the food storage is full!  The (now-dry) well room is visible to the northeast.  Be careful of running the pumps too long to refill the cistern below, as it will flood the well room!

Floor three.  Bedrooms, now pretty much all full of beds.  The new cistern below the well can be seen.

Floor four.  Expanded food storage in the NW, more beds.  Added a farmer's workshop in the rooms in the SE, as none existed.  Bottom of the water system - this flows upwards into the cistern above when the pump is running.

Floor five.  Engraved nobles' rooms to the west, through the HALL OF COFFINS.  Gotta remind the noble types that their actions have consequences!  Yet more food storage.  Barrel production needs to continue.

Phew.  I think that covers most of it.  Pretty quiet year, all told.  Here's the new file:

Thanks.

And I value ambition in my guard captains.  (Also willingness to kill/oppress fellow dwarves.)

I know I left stuff out, but saying 'a goblin showed up, then ran away' a dozen times wouldn't be too exciting.

FALRASLJ
Also I looked over the Fortress and it looks pretty good to me, except I can't find any sparring area.

So, who's going next?
If no new people come in, the rotation is gonna restart and im gonna go again.

I want to say the beds on the first floor are barracks, and hence will automatically be used for training?  I'm pretty sure I've seen dwarves with Sparring as their job.

It took me a while to figure out what was where, as the intended design was obviously messed up by the flood.  I'm tempted to dig way down and start a fresh floorplan underneath the existing levels.  Geofront ahoy.

And I had no idea Champions could be made Palace Guards or Guard Captains. neat.

And with strange aeons, even Death may lay down in the street and die.

You can go next if you want, Sponson.
I have some stuff to do over the weekend, so I might take a few days extra

Goblins can be thwarted by bricking up the entrance to the fort.  For nobles, I recommend suicide booths.

i once made suicide booths Big Grin
just give them a one space bedroom and when they sleep in it lock the door
or put all the beds in the entrance area and when they sleep flood it
