I picked that up recently, we should hunt together.

Re: Wii U general - Surf314 - 09-26-2013

Picked one of these up yesterday along with Rayman and GTAV after I lost an auction on ebay that would have had me paying about the same. Honestly Rayman is one of the best games I've ever played. The multiplayer is super fucking fun and well designed. I'd rate it as the #1 couples game I have ever played.

Better than Mario Party?

100%, It's challenging without making you rage at each other like Mario Party often does. It's very very collaborative without feeling forced. One person controls a character and the other can switch back and forth between playing a normal character or a touchscreen character that can control the environment. The touchscreen character is needed to cut ropes to make traps fall away or open up paths, it can move certain parts of the level around, it can carve out certain parts of the level to make paths, and lots of other cool things. Most levels are designed so that the touchscreen player will almost always have something to do. One level had her using a slingshot to kill baddies before they could get me.

Edit: Surf314 add me

Re: Wii U general - cbre88x - 09-28-2013

I added a bunch of you. Add me because my Nintendo friend's list is pretty lonely.

Re: Wii U general - Surf314 - 10-02-2013

I added everyone I could find in this thread. Now I can creep on what games you guys are playing.

Only multiplayer games I have are Monster Hunter and Sonic racing at the moment.

Re: Wii U general - KarthXLR - 11-23-2013

Mario 3D World is fucking awesome, anyone with a Wii U should get this.

Re: Wii U general - at0m - 12-06-2013

I posted in the Game Friend Code thread, but I caved and bought a Zelda edition one after messing around on Caff's. My Nintendo ID is at0msmasher, and I'll be adding people who have posted in this thread or the Gamertag one when I get home from work today.

Re: Wii U general - rumbot - 12-06-2013

I'm inclined to get a wii u for no particular reason other than I haven't played a zelda game in 5 years and am feeling withdrawal.

New Zelda probably come out until next year, but I hear Link Between Worlds is great.

EDIT: That being said, the Windwaker HD bundle would probably be a nice pickup.

Re: - at0m - 12-06-2013

It is, although that's for 3ds

if you haven't played windwaker at all or recently, I would say that the HD remake is worth picking up for sure. It streamlines a lot of the game (most triforce charts are outright replaced with the shards and you only need to collect and decipher 3 charts instead of all eight charts) in addition to things like not having to watch the animation of Link playing the songs every time, outside of the first time playing them upon each boot up of the game. Mario 3D World is amazing and if you like survival horror ZombiU is great and is relatively cheap and is basically the Demons/Dark Souls of zombie games. Wonderful 101 is a great action game akin to Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, etc. Pikmin 3 is also just a fun romp all around and the challenge mode is a blast if you like that sort of thing.

Rayman Legends is a great platformer with the definitive version being on the Wii U because the Murphy levels are designed for the touchscreen whereas any other version other than the Vita has them awkwardly done on controllers, although if you played Origins Legends might be really easy in comparison as the difficulty never ramps up substantially like it did in Origins. There's some good eshop exclusive stuff too like Mighty Switch Force HD and Nano Assault Neo, among others I'm probably forgetting. The lineup for 2014 is also going to be pretty killer with things like X, Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Bayonetta 2, and Yarn Yoshi and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem might be coming out that year as well.

I also think Zelda might be revealed at E3 with a release date of November or December as Miyamoto said they could have shown the Wii U Zelda game at E3 and ultimately decided not to.

I'm sad everyone wants to declare the Wii U dead. It's honestly the most fun I've had on a console in a long time. I think the main advantage of the Wii U is that if you have a good computer you can already get the best version of most Sony/MS titles for less $.

I've never quite understood, but there's a lot of Nintendo hate coming from the internet for some pretty petty reasons. Everyone's determined that the PS4 and Xbone are better no matter what...besides the fact that it's looking a lot like really similar to last gen, except with more paywalls. A common criticism seems to be with the tablet, but those usually seem to come from people who haven't used it yet. The only legitimate criticism I can think of are the eShop downloads being locked to the console, which is lame, but there's always retail for those type of things.

Re: Wii U general - Surf314 - 12-09-2013

On an unrelated note. Mudd in the indie games section of the online store is fucking amazing. It's like Kid Icarus (original) and Mega Man had a baby.

It will be slow out of the gate but ramp up with some nice things, the 3DS is just NOW taking off two years after launch, and the original DS took a good 1.5-2 years to get going too.

At the end of the day they might not sell quite as many as the XB1 or the PS4, but it will sell plenty for Nintendo to keep doing its thing.

It's not dead, just dormant.  It's got a lot of games that are super solid but can easily be classified into the not-COD-Assassin's Creed-Battlefield-Halo-GTA category so no one pays them any mind.  And remember, Nintendo has been the king of selling consoles for the past two generations at least, I don't think they're hurting for business.
