[quote author=Didzo link=topic=5388.msg193704#msg193704 date=1295991009]I did the latter, and, truth be told, I didn't even notice a performance increase from 4 to 8.

if you played APB...

coelit, the i7-2600k has ridiculous overclocking potential. plus it's on intel's new socket type. what parts have you already found for yourself? antec 900 has a very good reputation. i think it's the top rated case on newegg right now, gonna check. edit: it is. i have a corsair 750W PSU like the one in that wishlist, it's really good.

it's a lot easier, plus generally everything except for the case will come in a single package, at least in my experience buying computer parts from newegg.

protip: newegg > the rest

that monitor is the exact same one i have in that list, same price.
that case is $10 cheaper on newegg. it looks ok, but i'd still go with the antec 900.
you can't really select RAM without selecting a motherboard
that proc is good for the price, but you're spending $1500 on a computer, not $1000 or less. i7-2600k can get to 4.8ghz with air cooling alone.
that dvd drive looks ok, but there's no reason not to get it from newegg.
keyboard is your personal preference, but holy fuck at $130 for a simple illuminated keyboard. you could certainly spend less here. also no reason to buy it from there instead of newegg.

Logitech G15
yeah, G15 and/or the LCD-less G15 variant are at least $50 cheaper.
You guys need Memory Express in the US.

Walk into the store with a list of parts and cheapest prices from the net, walk out with all your gear in hand.

No waiting, no shipping. They price match online stores and offer 0-dead pixel warranties on their monitors.

@Versus: What's the advantage of the mobo you posted vs. the one in this combo?

Coelit will still need to have enough money to buy an OS. ($95 for Win7 Home Edition OEM, when bundled with the case or PSU)

lololololol

as for the mobo:

1. looks badass/functional
2. probably more durable
3. msi is a good brand, but i think asus is a better brand
4. not seeing why saving more is really necessary. maybe so he could go for 2x4GB immediately instead of 1x4GB now and 2x4GB later? i still think adding a second 4GB stick later would be a simple, effective upgrade for when he needs or could take advantage of the additional RAM.
Don't know if it makes a large difference but the new budget is 1600
