I have created us as a "Faith" based organization.

Who are casual explorers and socialites (this can be changed).

made an account, and now we wait for alpha/beta to arrive
You have to have a package to join. So... you can do the backer pre-buy for about $25 I think, it might be $30.
Based on current state (and how much that thing reset on it's own), that dog fighting module won't be until the end of this year, and the full game will be sometime next year... I personally don't feel cryengine was the best option, but they're too invested into it now for it to be worthwhile to change.
I thought I saw something about the dogfighting alpha being available in a few weeks.
That actually looks pretty nice. I guess this isn't vaporware(yet).

The Star Citizen Dog Fighting Module (against AI only, no MP yet) was released, and I LOVED it.

After about a 13 GB patch of the Star Citizen Client

It surpassed my expectations, it took my rose colored glasses from Wing Commander days and smashed them on the floor! The game is absolutely beautiful, the targeting system is intuitive and (once you get the hang of it) quite simple to use (but difficult to master).

Most space flight sims always make the assumption you're always handling Zero-G, which in space you technically are, but the Wing Commander, Freelancer, and Starlancer series always took a bit of a different approach where you basically had "stabilizers" which means removing throttle will reduce your speed, you make arched turns (albeit they could be very fast).

Well you still have the stabilizers in Star Citizen, but you can turn them off. Which means when someone is on your ass you can turn off the stabilizers, keep your forward momentum, rotate, and take the bastard following you off your own tail.

There is a missile locking system, but a flare system for countering it, also the "field of view" for locking is relatively small, so a ship flying erratic enough can easily shake lock.

I'm sure once I play it against real people the combat will be much more intense, but I had a blast playing against the AI. I truly believe this game will be incredible. and considering this small portion of it is 13 GB, where there's only 2 playable areas and 3 flyable ships... this game fully installed and patched will be absolutely insanely massive.

Duck, Duck, Goose

Been playing X3:TC lately, because I've been craving a good space sim and that's all I've got in my library. This looks pretty interesting, I've never played Freelancer, but I've heard nothing but good things about it while I was looking for games.

My question: how playable is it? Is it all just one big tech demo right now?
Good to hear that this is actually going somewhere.
So who wants to finish my history "story"?

Or should I re-write things all bible-like? (I honestly don't have time for writing either right now).

Almost forgot, the hangar and dog fighting modules will only run on DX11 for now. But I hear Crytek is working on a *nix port, so maybe opengl support in the future?
Dog fighting module (while buggy), now supports multiplayer, still only 3 ships flyable so far. But it's being worked on.
Hey there's multiplayer in the arena now.

Basically space deathmatch, and it's awesome!

I'll give it a shot after release.
If you've ever loved any Starlancer, Freelancer, or Wing Commander you have no good reason NOT to get (and support) this game period.
