Meeting Notes 8-15
- Room block opens on September 1st, time TBD, be prepared to call en mass to get that presidential suite, we're shooting for 1 or 2
- If you are even 1% chance at coming, you should help us book rooms

- No Chicago Trip this year, may order pizza or chinese for delivery
- Eightball will be running the community fund again, talk to him to make donations or if you need money, everything is anonymous
- Potentially no Wicker Park trip next year, or it might leave earlier this year
- Booze control needs to be a thing for this year, too much of people's private stuff got taken
- As per usual be careful of who you bring back to the party, always make them aware of the rules

(No meeting notes for 03-14 or 03-21)

Event Info

As some of you know, several people were asked to not return and turned back from the party on Saturday. Some had been at previous ACEN events but none are direct members of the community. I am open to the possibility of some of them being allowed back in (a few of the ones that had been more quiet and apologetic were allowed back that night) next year, but I will need to speak directly with the people who invited them regarding conduct. In retrospect I was ham-fisted and blanket in my approach, but it was also a group decision and I solicited feedback from everyone who was in the room having dinner at the time.

As for what was violated/broken rule wise
  • Noise Level / Loudness - Things got too rowdy for the room size, it may have flown in the presidential suite, but not in a crowded cabana
  • Immaturity - Goes hand and hand with being loud/rowdy, I was told by several people they felt uncomfortable with how some people were acting
  • Dipping into personal stashes - Booze on the table is for everyone, booze up on the shelf or off in the corner is not, always ask, also Cheese's homebrew bottles, people are told to put them back and now for two years running, a bunch disappeared in spite of announcements not to do so
  • Room Damage - With one chair already down (and I still don't know how much that will be) I did not want to have someone drunk accidentally breaking something

From my own experience it is always much more difficult to remove a drunk person in the middle of the party than it is to turn them away at the door. It is not a stretch to go from rowdy drunk person being asked to leave to a fight in a crowded suite or a spiteful person being kicked out calling the hotel/IRT on the party. While we weren't breaking any con or hotel rules that is still a pain in the ass to deal with and you can kiss the party/group event goodbye if it happens.

At the moment given that we will only have a Cabana Suite, pending group discussion on the matter I believe we should have a very strict invitee policy, they MUST be cleared by the room owner(s) and at least one person other than yourself. Only members of the community and close friends who are in good standing from previous conventions should be in attendance.

-------------------Original Post Below----------------------------

Its possible that ACEN has reserved or blocked off the presidential suites...so we should play it by ear for now.

Book your rooms, we'll continue to monitor if they do an official room block release we'll collectively jump on it to see if we can get the presidential suite so stay tuned.

I will also be editing the OP and Tronpaul's post and make this the one megathread.

Booked a double, Thursday through Saturday. There's a decent chance I might only be a Friday to Sunday next year, so I'd prefer to transfer if it comes to that, but I'll hold onto this for now.

To stay on top of the official block release, install the Twitter mobile app and tie an account to it, then use that to follow them on Twitter: https://twitter.com/animecentral
Then click on the gear icon next to the Follow button and Turn on mobile notifications. Make sure the mobile app setting is on to notify you of any tweets by ACEN's account. They should post a tweet right when it opens so you should be on top of things. They might have some post-ACEN tweets for the next week or so, but put up with it, it shouldn't be much.
So I managed a plaza (for now) at $280 a night with a no penalty cancel fee. Not sure how but I'll take it for now.

I'll grab a double for Thu-Sun eventually
Booked Thur-Sun, it let me request a 'standby' upgrade to the presidential or panorama suites...I think I might call the hotel on these...
When I asked about that she said I'd just have to call back to snag a cancelation

Browsing the ACEN forums, it appears that the room block is expected to open be announced in August or late July. Now is the time to start monitoring, if you haven't been already. Facebook, Twitter, forums.

I probably can't attend ACEN 2016, so let's make this one a rager.

EDIT: Source (http://www.acen.org/forums/index.php/top...oom-block/)

EDIT2: Sorry, info will be available in July/Aug. Block is expected to open alongside pre-registration.

As long as they dont stealth release....though many of us already "stole" rooms for next year we should try to jump on additional bookings and then ditch the ones we got previously.
OMG I'm already feeling an unexpected level of hype
