Did they mention anything about the suicide forest at the foot of mt. fuji?
Finally picked up my new wheels on Friday, and promptly drove it to NC on a business trip. Averaged 48MPG on the way down, go go turbodiesel!

Seems like a great choice. Classy color too.
Needs more spinners.

If I ever buy a VW, it'll either be a TD or a classic Beetle. Nice choice.

The newest Beetle sure is sexy though...

Not going to lie, I was tempted. But I wanted something I could actually transport stuff in, since I'm essentially downgrading from an SUV. Used to having so much more space!

Love everything.* Great car, great colors. I hope you find the driving of this car, in rain, shine, or snow, more pleasurable than your prior cars. The suspension is great, steering tight (for a fwd), and the TDI is such a fun, bulletproof engine with lots of low end snarl.

*except the automatic transmission.

That was the ONLY thing I compromised on.

What I basically wanted was my dad's old car, in a newer form (plus diesel). That meant manual jetta with a sunroof. Unfortunately, the current jettas suck, but I do like the Passat. And as far as sunroof/manual that wasn't available in diesel except in the absolutely cheapest model. So when narrowing it down, it was either diesel automatic with all the trimmings (sunroof, nav, satellite & hd radio, foglights, keyless entry & remote start), diesel manual basic (no trimmings whatsoever), or gas V6 manual with all the trimmings. I drove the diesel manual before deciding, and honestly it seemed like a lot more trouble than it was worth. The stall level is super high, you have to gun it when you get going at a stop sign to keep the diesel engine from stalling out. My dad's old Jetta GLI was one of the most finicky stick-shift cars I've driven, and the diesel Passat was even MORE finicky. Nobody besides me would've ever been able to drive it :/ And the V6 is totally a sports car in a luxury car's body, and gets worse gas mileage than my SUV (how they manage that with the same size engine, and a lighter car, is beyond me). That's my logic, and I'm sticking to it.

This one's got a tiptronic transmission, so I can pretend it's manual by manually selecting gears, but I know what you mean Tongue

And despite having only a 2.0L engine, it's definitely got some snarl ^_^ I've been having a blast driving it so far, and in 2/3 of a tank of fuel I've already gone 400+miles. Best of both worlds.

I did find some of the last sakura of the season near Mt. Fuji, which I was very happy about Smile

Well, it sucks that VW still hasn't developed the ability to do custom factory orders in the last decade. I understand and would probably agree with your analysis and your ultimate choice. Shame about the touchy clutch - the manual golf TDIs get rolling and shift like easy mode.

I'm not the biggest fan of the triptronic. Apparently, they use magnetic sensors to detect up/down shifts. I was driving mine one day when the upshift sensor went - and I'm revvin and slammin it forward and panicking.

[/quote]Funny thing is, this WAS a custom order, re: color and other features. I don't see why they couldn't do the manual tranny too, especially since the interior doesn't change between the diesel and the gas, so they already had the 'luxury' interior available for the V6. But whatever.

Re: mileage, I overestimated when I said 2/3 of a tank. I should've said closer to half.

I feel like a racist because seeing as how you're Chilean I thought you'd be a lot more, well, not white.

This is what I got done today. I'm so tired from moving the plywood around constantly.
I'm hoping to finish the canoe by the end of this weekend!
That looks awesome!

Well, we got a new kitty today. Finally.

Meet Jet!
