Took all day to download that movie, and when I finally tried it out...

Apparently a macbook pro can't handle a 720p video at a smooth framerate :|

Oh boo hoo, it's all the way in april.

The second season of saki hasn't even fucking been announced yet., we don't know when the fuck we're getting the third season of Shana.

This thing plays tf2 at a pretty decent framerate at medium models, high textures, no AA and medium everything else. You'd think if this can handle playing tf2 at 1440x900, it could handle a pre-rendered 1280×720 video...

is .mkv a horribly unoptimized format or something?

Hey man its not right to hate on school girl lesbians playing mahjong. Though I hope index keeps going if the anime can get past the next light novel some seriously epic shit starts happening with accelerator that I for one wouldn't mind seeing superbly animated.

MKVs are just a container, the audio/video/chapter/subtitle/etc formats within vary between files.
Also try out MPlayer, it supports CUDA acceleration. 5% cpu usage on my Macbook pro while playing 1080p 5.1 AC3 MP4 movies to a TV.

I can recommend that I use SMPlayer which is just Mplayer with a GUI compiled into it which makes it easier to use.

I would recommend ffmpeg and Media Player Classic as that's what all Windows pros use to watch videos
I coulda sworn VLC had hardware acceleration, but it hasn't run smoothly on many of our computers here...
(01-04-2011, 07:59 PM)Stein link Wrote: [ -> ]I coulda sworn VLC had hardware acceleration, but it hasn't run smoothly on many of our computers here...
VLC is the Wal-Mart of video players.

It does everything, but that doesn't mean it will be of quality. Native codec libraries are much more efficient. The FFMpeg libraries VLC uses probably don't use the DX calls on the Windows client, so that means no hardware acceleration (since FFMpeg doesn't do OGL calls).

EDIT: Wait, nevermind, it does use DX calls. Why isn't it doing hardware mode then?

Found it. Under Input and Codecs, turn on GPU Acceleration. Also force the usage of local codecs if you have them installed. Don't mind the earlier stuff; an idiot wrote it.
watched the trigun movie.

Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
