Man sins is a lot more fun than I expected. But it is mega complicated.

You're in the exact same boat as me.  I have 0 interest in Diplomacy, but Entrenchment was worth every penny.  Made the game even better.  I'd start a game with you, if you're ever bored, Odin.

Read above statement.  Entrenchment is the tits.  The Diplomacy expansion just never really appealed to me, as I've found the diplomacy aspect of the game lacking to begin with.  Diplomacy expansion is supposed to give it some much-needed depth, but I like the changes Entrenchment added enough that I don't feel I even need the other expansion.

It's really not when you get the hang of it.  It gets pretty simple, in all honesty.  The scale of the game is reaaaally big, and seems overwhelming at first, but after a few games it all becomes habbit.  Find which faction you like best and stick with it.  Anything you're having trouble with that you want me to try and sort out for you, Surf?
Yea man plus Diplo they fucked up pirates if you read the forums some guys are complaining that the first pirate raid of the game kills their capital planet.  I'd rather not get anally pirate raped so I'll wait till they get nerfed.
Sins is hard, but fun.  It just takes time.  I'm hoping to start one of the larger scenarios eventually since I'm going to have more time.  But I'm terribad at the game Tongue

I'll join you in that scenario, if you'd like Karrde.  Let me know if you need a wingman.

Could be fun.  You can save in MP right?  I like the bleeding huge maps that you can't feasibly finish in a few hours.

I've never played a map in one sitting.  Every game I've played (alone or with friends) has had multiple save points throughout.  Even if you don't save yourself, the game constantly self-saves it's progress so you can resume at a later time.  The only problem I've come across is that GIANT games (I'm talking 8 empires, with multiple stars and 100 or so planets)  can start to chop by the end.  I don't think it's due to processing power, but just an actual problm with the in-game engine.
Weird.
Bought Sins + Expansion.  Let's play yall.
Yea friends me and shoot me an invite before you guys start.

Fuck, I spent like 10 minutes searching for you on Steam till I saw your sig here.
Durp, my bad :-X
Jagged Alliance series is 50% off on GOG till Monday.
I also bought Sins + Entrenchment. I won't be able to play really till I get back from visiting family, but you can shoot me an invite anyways Tongue
I'm loving sins so I'll buy entrenchment, I like the idea of diplomacy though Sad

Can someone give me a breakdown of the factions? Also can we never play with pirate raids on because fuck that. First game I won a hard battle against a computer player and then fucking pirates took me out.
Yea had some good sins with eschatos and his friends last night.

Surf, basically the factions are fast and cheap, balanced, or heavy and expensive.

Advent are cheapest and fastest producing, but also the worst statswise of all fleets.  TEC are most balanced, and Vasari are expensive but their fleet is tough and powerful.

The rest of it is flavor.  The vasari are probably the most mobile after you get phase tunneling, and they are the only ones with a strabase that can move around its gravity well and deploy very fast.  Advent have a lot of nice abilities but they can be situational.  And again, TEC strikes a balance but leans towards the ability to do raw damage and expand quickly, their starbase can get the best guns but can also research the ability to produce frigates and cruisers.

You kinda have to try out all 3 factions.  I never really hit off with advent so I don't know much about them compared to the other two.

A quick break down (thanks to StarCraft), divides them up like this:

TEC = Terran
The "middle of the road" faction.  Heavy armoured ships that utilize missiles.  They are pretty devastating when they bring a fleet full of their torpedo cruisers (Entrenchment) to a planet.  Those things hurt.

Advent = Zerg
The "quantity over quality" faction.  They build ships that are fast, with light armour.  Instead of focusing on armour, they try to build ships with strong shields.  Units are cheap to make, but get shot down much easier.  They are designed to overwhelm their enemies with numbers.  Lots of strike craft.

Vasari = Protoss

The "quality over quantity" faction.  They require a lot of research and resources to become really effective (takes time to build up and be ready to fight), but are worth the wait (if you can survive).  The Vasari focus a lot on special abilities, rather than brute force (buffs and debuffs).  It's sort of hard to describe them, without going through all of their abilities, heh.  That being said, they are my faction of choice, and they are the only faction I play at this point.
Everyone underestimates the Advents cultural elements... You can win games faster through cultural victories then massing fleets  8)

[/quote]Yeah, thats one of the reasons I'm considering buying Diplomacy. Winning militarily using Advent can take FOREVER.
