Well, I got the files downloaded, but apparently PS2 doesn't get along nicely with my campus internet, because the only way I've been able to run LaunchPad and actually get into the game is by tethering to my phone. And even then after a few minutes of running around I got a "Disconnected from Server" message that closed the game.
Bah, unable to play PS2 now that I got in.  I can do fine at the warpgate, but once i get into an area with action, framerate is just gone.  No amount of settings fiddling does anything to help.

what kind of computer do you have, and what do you consider "doing fine"
Intel Core2 Duo 3.0ghz
6gb RAM
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti

I get smooth gameplay at the Warpgate, I don't know what my FPS is there, but it's absolutely playable, I can fly, drive, do whatever just great.  Battlezones, it's just stop and go, completely unplayable.  I just made sure my graphics card was updated, which is all I can do.  Changing the settings down to low and low render quality didn't help. Seems there are other people having the same problem on the forums.

Super common issue right now, Max. I'm in the same boat, with a low end rig, and I get the exact same issues. Dev team has repeatedly said they're trying to work out why older-generation dual cores are suffering so greatly. One of the coders put up a thread explaining a few things, but also mentioned to not give up hope on your rig; they're using a rig worst than either of ours to troubleshoot the engine issues.

SWEET SWEET PS2 ACTION

And I no longer have to tether to my fucking phone just to launch the game. Woo yeah. Maybe now we can all play it together soon so that you guys can teach me how the hell this game works.
Oh please let me run the game!
Would love to play sometime, send me an invite whenever you guys are on.
Just finished playing for entirely too long, and everything is running perfectly and is super awesome. I bumped into Kor for a second, then spent a few hours helping VS capture Zurkan on East 01.

Send me friend requests dammit; my in-game name is OpifexK2.
I'm able to play! I managed to get into a squad, we did some simple capping, before dying and moving to a Liberator.  I learned generally how to fly and land one and we successfully did some great bombing runs and even managed to stay alive for a good long while before just getting royally boned lol I still get some stuttering in the REALLY battle heavy areas, but it's absolutely playable and pretty entertaining.

*EDIT*
Are Vanu just completely gimped with sniping or are the other teams just as bad? I've never used a sniper rifle that was so inaccurate at most ranges, while also requiring upwards of 3 shots or more to kill people with.  I don't need them to be straight line shots, I can work with drop and lead, but other than the very short stealth infiltrators get, I'm not finding much use for them.
They're all multi shot kill weapons, although they're brutal indoors since they're semi auto now. If you get used to hiding you don't even need stealth though because it doesn't have the huge railgun trail it used to to telegraph your position.

I still can't get above 10 FPS in actual fights, even on minimum settings.  :'(
I will be trying again tonight around 8p CST, why don't some of you show up in mumble....?

I'd be on but I'll be at the lake this weekend. I'll play tomorrow though.

Also, I officially cancelled my PS1 sub.

End of an era  :'(
Curse had a giveaway for keys for this and I still didn't get one. Dammit.
