I was very surprised at an actual server queue, that never happened with PS at all...I would expect this to go down a bit in the coming days?

Yeah everyone trying to play on launch night.  It'll be more spread out i'm assuming from now on.  Even if it gets more popular, the plan was to always ease server restrictions over time.

Plus they will be adding more planets.

On an unrelated note - Because of the passive cert gain, should we make all the other characters we plan on making now? NC, TR, whatever servers, etc. (color added so people will notice this)

Passive Cert gain is increased for subscribers. I think that the baseline is 1 cert per hour and any boosts you have increase that. I had about 12 more certs when I logged on this morning and I think my boosts are at 35%.
OK I did some digging:

Everyone gets 16 certs per 24 hours passively. The premium membership will boost this by your passive bonus. So in the first month of a premium membership you get 20 certs per day, in the 6th month you get 24. If you buy the premium membership in a 6 month block you will get the full 24 certs per day max. So yes it will benefit everyone to create all their characters ASAP. Are we staying on the same server for all factions?

We can't, each character will need to be on a seperate server.

Reference my earlier post, pick another US East for NC, a US West for TR

Based on pops as of this post:
Waterson (US East) -> NC
Connery (US West) -> TR

My names are SurfNC and SurfTR respectively.
Argh, certs. I played for 6 hours yesterday and got about 100 certification points. Meaning I need to play this game for >2 solid days to unlock that nice rifle or vehicle attachment. Hoping they'll either lower price or increase acquisition, else this could be a real turn-off.

They might still tweak it. The passive cert gain will pay off over time as well, even if you take breaks from playing. Also I was reading that you can get 65% weekly boosts for $7 that also boost your squad's XP gain by 35%. I don't know if there is a stack cap, but if we pick a week we will all be free and then stack a squad with as many boosts as possible we could get an unreal amount of XP. Especially if we roll around capping smaller bases.

I guess. As it is, I can't justify using station cash either--not that I think the game isn't worth spending money on (I spend $10 on Blacklight after playing for an hour), but the sheer cost for each item is just as nuts. Want that rocket launcher on your magrider? 500SC. How about a passive ability? Another 500SC. How about--oh, you're out of cash.

EDIT: Seems like to buy all non-cosmetic stuff using station cash would cost >$200. For one faction.
EDIT2: "the cost of unlocking 50+ percent of the content is clear over 1000 dollars" mother of god.

Yeah, alpha has helped paying for a bunch of neccessary weapons at once, but i think overall progress is supposed to be somewhat slow.  The base game with no unlocks or certs is fairly well balanced with certed players (default ESF weapons aside), so it shouldn't be seen as a long grind to be good but rather a very gradual specialization in a class or vehicle that gets shaped over time.
I agree, the prices are way too high. But there are only a few things you absolutely need, the rest is just nice. It might be helpful to compile a list of must have items. I would add the AA rocket launcher to the list. It is the only way you can be much of a threat to air and it still does decent damage against tanks as a dumb fire rocket.

Personally I'm paying for the premium membership because I think it's worth the price of an MMO membership. The 500 SC I get a month for this is all I plan on spending outside that.

We should start a planetside info thread.

Edit:
Also there are a lot of players asking for changes to certs on the forums - especially the ability to refund certs. If the devs just make that one change then I think it will make the game seem a lot more reasonable.

Most of the worthwhile stuff is 30 - 100

And a lot is really really cheap, like Nano Weave armor for all classes is 1, then 10 certs, so you can get level II for pretty much every class very easily.

Med Pack is a universal unlock for 50, VERY useful

Ammo capacity on most vehicles is 1 point for that weapon

Non-Iron sights or optics are 30 per weapon

Pick a class you want to mostly play, dump certs into it
Jager for NC
Conery for TR

yeah, I'm trying to get in to create characters.... game is kinda buggy though.

Where's a good reference for noobs?  I can read up while I'm at the lake for the next couple of days and my guys are just racking up certs...
Caff is already being spotted. Watch to the end.
