Brokencyde has been universally panned by critics. Metal Edge magazine has called Brokencyde "fucking horrendous". "Thrash Magazine" has called them "a mockery to the world of music". Cracked.com contributor Michael Swaim said the band sounded like "a Slipknot-Cher duet". British commentator Warren Ellis calls Brokencyde's "FreaXXX" music video "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that’s shit about this point in the culture".

The New Musical Express stated in a review of I'm Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It!, that "even if I caught Prince Harry and Gary Glitter adorned in Nazi regalia defecating through my grandmother’s letterbox I would still consider making them listen to this album too severe a punishment."

I wrote a preview for a Brokencyde show that was so mean that my editor refused to print it.

I then went to said brokencyde show and witnessed the beginning of a slow Armageddon.... literally.  I was going to write a longer piece using Frued's "civilization and its discontent" and Plato as basis to show how brokencydes rise in popularity could spell doom for our civilization as a whole.  My editor wasn't too interested in this either.

the band has already caught on with 12-15 year olds, primarily because all they do sing about is getting high and having sex.  i'm serious, there is a group of kids who can't get enough of this shit.

EDIT: And i bet he doesn't even know what half of the things they're talking about on their songs, it's just because on their videos they show up drinking while..shouting... and dressing like happy emos.. you know.. that kind of people who use an emo hair, pink shoes, ragged jackets with pink patches just to be the center of attention..

the motivation to actually write it withered removed from the context and the hype surrounding actually going to see the band play.

here is the listing i wrote for the actual show though:

[GET-CRUNKED] The title of Brokencyde’s 2009 album, I’m Not a Fan, But the Kids Like it!, is apt if only because it accuses you of being too old to have actually met a fan. Though the “Crunkcore” circle that these kids travel claim to have roots in Punk and Screamo-emo, its only influence is seemingly the enjoyment that comes with screaming the word “Crunk” over hastily made techno beats. Brokencyde essentially behave like a Lil Jon clone who, after watching a short documentary of the Dead Kennedys, for some reason thought "I want me a piece of that." Brokencyde  unfortunately lack even the personality that makes bands like ICP so fun to hate. IAN RASMUSSEN
