In a Japanese women's weekly magazine. That's not funny, that's ordinary.

Chu = Japanese onomatopoeia for a kiss
Similarly, Nya or Nyo is a cat's meow

In Japanese folklore, non-humans are usually incapable of speaking normally, and that usually leads to suspicion from the honest villagers. If you read manga in Japanese, or watch un-dubbed anime, you'll notice that the talking cats end their sentences with "nya" and the talking dogs say "wan". Each of the different dolls in Rozen Maiden had a different conversational expression, desu, that they would throw into the conversation as if it were a nervous tic, desu, just so that you wouldn't forget that they were dolls, desu.
Which brings me back to Pokemon. (This is brb.u, after all.) Even Team Rocket's pet Pokemon, Nyasu, who
forgot Payday in order to learn human speech, can't stop saying his own name when he talks. Because he's not human, and that's just how the story goes in Japan.
"Nya-su" was brought into English syllable by syllable, and we know him as "Meow-th".
Pokemon - Nyaasu's Party / Meowth's Party. (Japanese and English Version)
"Nya Nya Nya Soo Gah Now We Can Tickle Raccoons"
