That said, I made a throwaway facebook and, though tricky, am pretty confident I got the right answer... just like the other 400 people who commented. When do I get my free code?
And they step back on that after getting over 700 comments and only give out 10 copies.

OH JUST A TYPO LOL
You all hate Steam voicechat and INSIST on using your crazy Mumblies and Skypez and TeemSpeak, but Valve has just announced that as of today, your raspy, nasally nerd voices can be heard in crystal clarity, preserving every lisp, spit into the microphone, and racial slur the way they are meant to be heard. This is because the codec Steam now uses for voice is the same as the one used for Skype. Anyway, have fun.

And now with even more latency. Voice quality hasn't really been a problem, it's the 3 second lag on a 30ms server.

This.

This is the 2nd time in less than 6 months they've redone the voice systems.

Guess what happened last time?

No one noticed because it was still just as bad.
Valve will be adding video recording service to Steam shortly. This is most likely to make way for match recording in Dota 2. It is very likely we will see Steam in some form on iOS and Android in the near future too.

All of this is great news.

Wait, wonder if that means you would be able to publish rendered tf2 replays to the Steam video thing in addition to youtube...

Considering we can assume the game recording will work in most all games available on Steam, I'd say as long as you can run the videos in engine then there is no reason you can't record them and have them uploaded to Steam. I'm actually wondering how video upload will work, or if they'll even have cloud video. Them's some big files.

Not too much though. Download a 720p video from youtube and you'll find it's only around 16mb for a minute clip. Since everyone's given a gig for screenshot uploading, no reason this can't go towards the same limit. Only problem being actually encoding the video to make it that small. It'd probably have to be done server-side like youtube, but I hope steam would have an integrated one so we're not stuck uploading 200mb videos.

hopefully this means dota2 will come sooner than later

Check that.

This was a change to steam's external voice chat, Spore, not the in game one.

To be fair I never actually specified. (: Also, this codec will be used in Portal 2. I wouldn't be surprised if they added compatibility for older versions of Source too for older games.
Super mega RUMOR. Avalanche Studios, makers of Just Cause 2, may very well be making a Mad Max game. A MAD MAX GAME!

A bunch of indie games on Steam have been updated for April Fools day. All of them potato themed it seems.

THIS IS WHY STEAM EXISTS, PEOPLE!
Okay, so some people have been playing all of these Potato Fools Day things and have noticed that some of them contain more than just potatoes. Some people believe that this is the beginning of a whole new ARG and there is certainly some interesting stuff posted so far, and with what happened on that Portal 2 ARG, not all of it seems too far fetched. Now, it's still pretty barebones, and I don't want to get too conspiracy theory here... but... I want to believe.
