Iâve been making a point of trying to find, in both TV and Cinema, films that offer a portrayal of what life is truly like. Iâve watched some documentaries recently, but I think as a whole the majority of them approach some kind of terrible partisan point of view that makes you depressed and angry by the end (I was feeling sorry for a Chicken by the end of Food, Inc. A damn chicken).
This weekend, I watched The Class:

The film is based on a French teacherâs novel in urban Paris who is struggling to teach the cultural mismatch of modern Parisâ inner-city youth. The film isnât overdone or forced, cliché or stolen, or filled with superstars. In fact, the teacher is played by none other then the book's author himself, an idealist who proves in the end to be just as human and flawed as the kids he is teaching.
The movie doesnât give you a sad or happy ending. The film doesnât manipulate your emotions or try to force a point of view. Instead, it simply opens a window into the subject matter and lets you do with it what you will.
If you can stand subtitles, itâs a great movie if you feel like thinking.
Oh boy, it's been a bit too long since I posted in this thread. It's time for:
KARTH'S FINGER LICKIN' MEGA MOVIE REVIEW ROUNDUP
Koyaanisqatsi (1982): For a film with no plot or characters, it was really good. The cinematography was gorgeous and the Phillip Glass music was fantastic to listen to. This one was for you Great Bacon.
Tron (1982):Guess I have Luin and HeK to thank for this one. The movie starts off kind of slow, but once it gets going, it gets going. Really makes you wonder how they pulled off those effects.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977): Ok, this movie was just kind of awesome. I had so much fun watching this and I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
Lost in Translation (2003): Watched this with my sister. A great movie with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Both funny and sad at the same time. Which reminds me, I must watch more movies with Bill Murray.
Watched Hurt Locker recently. It was pretty good, not the super amazing Oscar film everyone makes it out to be though.
I finally got around to watching World's Greatest Dad.
It's fantastic. I would post the trailer, but it makes the movie seem like a rambunctious comedy about a dad trying to cope with an out of control son when it's actually a dark comedy about a dad who posthumously reinvents his son after he accidentally kills himself while masturbating.
It's wonderfully written, and Robin Williams is great when he is repressing every emotion he has (see also: Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love).
It plays like a Todd Solondz movie but without Phillip Seymour Hoffman and a horrible sense of depression.
